Following a few months of rumors, Kurt Russell has officially joined the cast for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and director James Gunn also released a new photo this week….
Production is underway on the highly anticipated sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 from director James Gunn, with the movie due out on May 5, 2017.
All of the original cast is coming back but there will be a few new additions — most notable actor Kurt Russell, who is officially on board after rumors have been swirling for months that he was joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now Gunn wasn’t willing to say who Russell would be playing, but everybody seems to think he’ll end up as Star Lord’s father — a mysterious figure that was teased heavily in the first film.
Gunn did confirm that Pom Klementieff is playing the character Mantis, who Marvel fans know as a former Avenger who actually trained under the Kree (who we met in the first Guardians movie) as a master martial artist and eventually joined up with the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comic book universe as well.

Finally as one last present to fans with shooting underway, Gunn released a new photo teasing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to get everyone stirred up ahead of the film’s release next year.

Gunn has always been a very responsive director on Twitter so keep an eye out over the next few months because he’ll likely drop a few more nuggets throughout filming for the new movie.
