Darth Vader will return to the Star Wars universe as part of the upcoming offshoot film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story….
The Dark Lord of the Sith will rise again.
The upcoming prequel/offshoot film Rogue One: A Star Wars story will travel back in time to the group of spies that managed to steal plans to the Death Star ahead of the events that took place in Star Wars: A New Hope.
Now it’s been confirmed that Darth Vader will be a looming presence in the upcoming movie, although he won’t be the main antagonist opposing the rebel forces attempting to steal plans to the Death Star.
Instead, Ben Mendelsohn will play Empire villain Director Krennic and he’s the main person trying to fulfill the wishes of the Emperor in the movie, but Darth Vader will be a shadow lurking over him throughout the film.
Considering Director Krennic never appears in any of the original Star Wars trilogy, it’s safe to assume he’s probably not going to make it out of Rogue One alive, especially if Vader has anything to say about it.
There’s no word on who will portray Darth Vader in the upcoming film, but it’s expected that James Earl Jones will voice the character as he’s done throughout the history of the Star Wars universe.
The last time Darth Vader was seen on screen was during Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith when Anakin Skywalker made his final transformation into the ominous character in the final prequel film from George Lucas.
It’s hard to say how much screen time Darth Vader will get in Rogue One, but it’s clear he’s presence will be felt by the members of the Empire as well as the rebel band sent to steal plans to the Death Star.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on December 16.
