In the latest ‘Supergirl’ recap, Kara runs into Mr. Mxyzptlk who wants to claim her hand in marriage as love is in the air for everybody on Valentine’s Day…

Love is in the air in National City or something like that.
The latest episode of ‘Supergirl’ saw Kara and Mon-El finally get together but not before they had to deal with an imp from the fifth dimension named Mxyzptlk, who showed up out of nowhere proclaiming his love and asking for her hand in marriage.
Mr. Mxyzptlk is a well known prankster from the Superman universe, but this time around he shows up pestering Supergirl for her attention while making a play for her to become his wife.
Of course that puts Mon-El in a rather interesting position because on Daxam whenever one of these imps would show up, they’d just crush them and move on with their lives but Kara prefers an approach that doesn’t end with somebody dying. Not to mention, Mon-El is struggling with his own feelings for Kara because he keeps trying to make her the damsel in distress when she is anything but that!
Meanwhile, Alex wants to share her first Valentine’s Day with Maggie except for one small problem — she despises the Hallmark holiday and everything it stands for. Add to that, Winn is miserable because he’s alone but that soon changes when he runs into a hot-blooded alien who is short on small talk but quick still quick with her tongue.
With that said, let’s recap the latest episode of ‘Supergirl’ titled ‘Mr. and Mrs. Mxyzptlk’…
Nice Day for a Surprise Wedding
Just when it looked like Kara and Mon-El were going to kiss — this time officially and not at the end of a near death episode — an overenthusiastic imp named Mxyzptlk shows up out of nowhere and proclaims his love for her. If that’s not enough, Mxyzptlk even says that he wants to marry Kara and he’s hoping for an ‘I do’ sooner rather than later. Soon as in right now.
Of course, Mon-El isn’t a fan of that idea, but Mxyzptlk knows exactly how to deal with ‘tall, dark and bland-some’ so he zaps him away to the DEO in his underwear. Meanwhile, back at Kara’s apartment, Mxyzptlk tries his best to woo her by providing music, flowers and even a Vera Wang wedding dress so she’ll finally say yes to him.
It’s all a little strange but clearly Kara isn’t going to marry anyone right now, much less a strange fifth dimensional imp who shows up out of thin air to pop the question. Mxyzptlk agrees to return while waiting for Kara’s true answer as she searches for clue about this strange being’s origins.
It turns out, Mxyzptlk comes from the fifth dimension and these imps are well known for causing havoc across the universe. Research shows that beings like have been showing up on Earth for centuries but people have typically called them by names such as leprechaun or other magical or mythical creatures of the same kind.
Mon-El believes the Daxam way is the best chance to get rid of him and that means smashing him into a million pieces. Kara disagrees and tells Mon-El to let her handle things in her own way.
The rest of the team searches for any alien archives with mentions of these fifth dimensional imps and how they’ve been defeated previously.
The search doesn’t yield any answers right away but soon Kara is pulled back into Supergirl mode when the evil Parasite shows back up to wreak havoc across National City. Despite Supergirl already defeating and killing this creature earlier in the season, its back and she’s got to stop it.
As the battle gets underway, Kara fights the creature and even Mon-El shows up to lend a helping hand but both of them are swatted away like flies as the Parasite continues its devastation. Just then up in the sky…it’s a bird…it’s a plane…no it’s Mxyzptlk dressed as Superman, who soundly thwarts the villainous creature as a sign to prove to Kara what they could do together if they were husband and wife.
Mon-El is furious but in the midst of the fight does manage to reveal one key piece of information that he seemingly left out in their previous conversations about these imps. If you can get them to say their name backwards, then they disappear back to the fifth dimension. Kara is furious that he failed to mention this before but Mon-El believes it was a pointless effort because no one can ever convince these imps to say their name backwards anyways.
As the argument continues, Kara storms off and Mon-El is rather upset at how their near relationship is seemingly fizzled out before it even began. The good news is Mon-El has a plan to get rid of Mxyzptlk once and for all when he finds out that Winn has discovered a gem that contains a lot of power connected to the fifth dimension. So Mon-El steals the gem and challenges Mxyzptlk to a duel where only one of them will survive and the winner takes Kara.
Once the fight begins, Mon-El gets the upper hand when he exposes the gem and it zaps all of Mxyzptlk’s powers. The two end up engaged in a good old fashioned fist fight, but during the ruckus, Mxyzptlk manages to wrestle the gem away from Mon-El and destroy it.
A second later, he has Mon-El chained up as he prepares to shoot him dead when Supergirl arrives. She agrees to marry Mxyzptlk so long as nobody else gets hurt. Supergirl promises to become his wife the next day at the Fortress of Solitude where they can say their vows. Mxyzptlk accepts the proposal and disappears until he can take his wife’s hand in marriage the next day.
Valentine’s Day
It’s Valentine’s Day in National City but while Alex is ready to celebrate her first special holiday with someone she loves, Maggie can’t stand the Hallmark holiday and all that comes along with it. Still, Alex wants to try and make this day special for both of them so she sets up a date that Maggie would love regardless of the date on the calendar.
She buys a giant tiramisu — Maggie’s favorite food — as well as a bottle of vintage Scotch — Maggie’s favorite drink — and put on some sexy lingerie — Maggie’s favorite…well you get the point. Unfortunately, Maggie isn’t impressed at this attempt at romance and instead shuns Alex for not listening to her when it came to her disdain for Valentine’s Day.
Maggie finally reveals that her family not only didn’t accept her coming out as gay but they actually disowned her as a result and it all happened on Valentine’s Day.
Maggie explains that when she was 14-years old she fell for a classmate, who made her realize that she actually liked girls. She was so confident that her feelings would be reciprocated that she made a special Valentine’s day card and slipped it in her locker at school. Sadly the girl didn’t feel the same way and ended up handing the card over to her parents who then called Maggie’s parents as a result.
Maggie’s parents shunned her and kicked her out of the house and she was forced to live with an aunt for the next three years until she graduated high school. She lied to Alex about how she came out to her parents because Maggie didn’t want her to be frightened of the repercussions of finally realizing who she is and who she loved.
As for Winn, his Valentine’s Day is spent at the bar knocking back some strange off world lagers when a pair of gruesome aliens straight out of the cantina on Tattoine rag on his drink selection. Just when it appears that Winn is going to get his ass kicked for Valentine’s Day, a beautiful alien named Lyra shows up, thrashes his would be assailants and even sits down to have a drink with him.
Lyra comes from Starhaven — a once thriving and beautiful planet that has now been transformed into the stench of death — and that explains why she’s now on Earth. She’s not only pretty but very aggressive and it doesn’t take long before she’s locking lips with Winn and they have dinner plans later that day. Of course they never make it to dinner because she essentially pulls him into bed before they can even take a bite.
Once they finally do make it to dinner, Lyra believes that she was just another one night stand but Winn tells her that he actually cares for her and wants to build something. Is Winn finally going to find happiness? Maybe he’s been looking on the wrong planet all along.
Nasty Woman
It’s finally time for Kara to marry Mxyzptlk and they both arrive at the Fortress of Solitude on time except for one problem — she quickly proclaims that she had no intention of ever taking him as a husband. Kara explains that drawing him to the Fortress was the only way she could ensure that his outburst wouldn’t potentially harm a lot of people.
Of course, Mxyzptlk freaks out and tries to force Kara to marry him but she turns the tables when she locks down the Fortress and overheats the reactor inside that will melt down and kill everyone inside. While Mxyzptlk can manipulate just about anything, he can’t force Kara’s will and he can’t stop her from killing herself. In this case, Kara is taking her own life, which in turn will take his as well.
Mxyzptlk finally convinces Kara to give him the code to stop the self-destruct mechanism inside the Fortress and she leads him through the spelling on the Kryptonian computer. Little does he know that the password to shut down the reactor was Kltpzyxm — his name spelled backwards.
Mxyzptlk disappears back to the fifth dimension from whence he came and Supergirl defeated the imp without crushing him into a million pieces.
Kiss and Make Up
Following their Valentine’s Day disaster, Maggie talks to Kara about what happened with Alex. Kara reminds her that no matter how bad her memories of the holiday might be, this is something that is still important to Alex. Maggie agrees and ends up surprising Alex with a special Valentine’s Day dance that they can share together and hopefully make some happier memories for the future.
And finally, Mon-El shows up at Kara’s apartment and apologizes for his behavior. He’s still trying to adjust to the feelings he has for her but somehow keeps managing to blow things up before they ever get started. Kara agrees that Mon-El has allowed his ego to get in the way again and again but that doesn’t change the way she feels about him and she hopes it hasn’t changed the way he feels about her.
The two finally kiss and everybody gets a happy ending on Valentine’s Day.
