In the ‘Supergirl’ recap, Kara and Alex try to stop Cadmus after they begin rounding up all of the aliens in National City…
By Damon Martin — Editor/Lead Writer
Leave it to ‘Supergirl’ to tell some of the most culturally relevant stories on television today.
In the latest episode titled ‘Exodus’, the shadowing group known as Cadmus has decided to do a mass round up of aliens from all over National City, put them in a ship and fly them back to wherever they came from regardless of whether or not they are doing anything wrong on Earth or if their home worlds have been ravaged by war or famine.
Sound familiar?
Needless to say Kara and Alex are doing to do anything they can to stop Cadmus from this deportation lunacy while also trying to figure out why their father, Jeremiah Danvers, betrayed them a week and to return to the group that kept him separated from his family for the past 15 years.
Add to that, Kara is dealing with her own moral conundrum at work as she desperately wants to tell the world about Cadmus and the alien registration list, but her boss Snapper Carr needs more than a warning — he needs proof. When Kara decides to take a detour around that, she finds out how much that will cost her.
With that said let’s recap the latest episode of ‘Supergirl’ titled ‘Exodus’…
Round Up
After stealing the alien registry list last week from the DEO, Cadmus unleashes their plan to round up all the aliens in National City by any means necessary. That includes kidnapping children, abducting their parents and event attacking the local alien dive bar and taking Winn’s new lady love Lyra away from him.
Jeremiah’s betrayal coupled with Cadmus’ latest actions have everybody on edge, nobody more so than Alex Danvers, who is irate that her father betrayed them and now more people are being hurt by what he’s doing.
Alex ends up attacking one of the Cadmus soldiers they managed to capture during the raid on the alien bar, which causes concern for J’onn because he’s beginning to question her judgment ever since her father was compromised.
Later that night, Alex receives a visit from her father, who explains that he had to continue working for Cadmus to protect his family but now he has a plan to release all the aliens but it’s going to take some help from his daughter. He needs her to steal a weapon from the DEO that will allow him to free the aliens and turn the tables on Cadmus once and for all.
Alex finally agrees but as she turns around, her father transforms into J’onn J’onzz — and this entire thing was a set up. J’onn was worried that Alex couldn’t be trusted when it comes to her father and he was right. He puts her on suspension and even Alex’s pleas to Kara don’t work because she seems to agree with him.
That means Alex is all on her own except this time she finally has back up from her ‘ride or die’ girl Maggie, who promises to help her take down Cadmus with or without the DEO’s help.
The Source
With Cadmus rounding up all the aliens in town, Kara wants to get the word out to all those who could be affected, but it’s not as easy as just sending out an alert. Thanks to the DEO being an off the books government organization, they can’t exactly send out a message to warn the aliens to be on the lookout for Cadmus so Kara decides to use her connections at Cat Co. to get the job done instead.
Unfortunately, Snapper Carr won’t print her story without at least two sources proving that the alien registry has been stolen and even an exclusive interview with Supergirl doesn’t sway him to run the news. With all this fake news stuff going around, Snapper just can’t be too careful.
With options limited, Kara decides to write up her own personal blog about the situation and release it wide on the internet thanks to the wonders of social media. She knows Snapper will be irate, but this is too important to just let go.
Kara puts out the news but the ramifications are felt immediately when she returns to Cat Co. the next day and Snapper has her desk cleaned out and pink slip ready to go. Kara violated the terms of her contract, not to mention releasing information that was by all journalistic standards unverified. This time it certainly feels like Kara’s career at Cat Co. is finished.
Immigrant Song
With no leads on where Cadmus may have taken the aliens, Kara turns to her friend Lena Luthor for help. Lena offers to dig through L-Corp’s files to see if her adopted mother from hell may have left any trail of breadcrumbs that could lead to wherever she’s let up Cadmus these days.
Lena hits paydirt when she discovers an old Luthor shipping yard that was shut down years ago, yet they are still shipping products there and paying for the upkeep. Sadly, Lillian still has spies inside the company her son Lex used to run and she sends some goons to deal with Lena. Thankfully, Supergirl shows up and saves the day by catching Lena after she’s accidentally tossed off the roof.
Meanwhile, Alex and Maggie enact their own plan when they stakeout some aliens in town and wait for Cadmus to strike. Sure enough, they stop one of the alien abductions and then use the GPS from inside the Cadmus van to track down their secret base.
When Alex arrives, she shoots down a few of the soldiers but eventually she runs into her father, who implores her to stop this attack. Jeremiah tells Alex that he did what he did because Cadmus was going to hurt his family and this was the only way to keep them safe. He also revealed that Lillian’s original plan was just to execute all the aliens but he convinced her to ship them back home instead.
Jeremiah explains that it was the only play he had to keep the aliens from being murdered.
When Lillian discovers Alex’s presence, she shows off the ship that will carry the aliens into space but she clearly underestimated her opponent in this situation. Alex reveals that she has wired the entire base with explosives and she’ll blow this whole place apart unless Lillian stops the countdown that will send the aliens back into space.
Lillian refuses so Alex follows through on her threat, but it’s still not enough to stop the ship so she rushes out to try and find some kind of override on board. Jeremiah attempts to stop the ship from inside the facility but he ends up in a fight with Hank Henshaw instead, so now it’s up to Alex to stop this ship from launching.
Thankfully she calls into the DEO for assistance, but even Winn can’t figure out a way to stop the ship’s launch. That’s when Supergirl shows up and through sheer might of force, she’s able to prevent the ship from breaking through Earth’s atmosphere, which would have then resulted in an immediate jump to light speed, taking the aliens far across the universe.
The alien ship is landed back on the ground and everyone inside is released. Unfortunately we don’t see exactly what happens with Lillian, Hank or Jeremiah, so it seems likely they all escaped — some of them more willing than others.
Prince of the Universe
In the aftermath of stopping Cadmus, Lyra reunites with Winn and J’onn apologizes to Alex for going to such extreme measures to test her loyalty. The main heart and soul of Cadmus still got away and Jeremiah Danvers isn’t home so this battle is far from over.
As for Kara, she’s depressed after losing her job because as much as she loves being Supergirl, being a journalist was what she really wanted to do with her life. Now that’s been taken away from her. Mon-El tries to console her as best he can as Kara’s career path has now taken a decided detour.
And finally, a massive ship is shown in space coming up over the horizon of the moon. Inside a royal family — a king and queen played by Teri Hatcher and Kevin Sorbo — plots to finally land on the planet where they object they desire has been found. A preview of the next episode finally reveals a huge secret that’s long been suspected….
Mon-El wasn’t the guard tasked with protecting the prince of Daxam — he is the prince of Daxam and the aliens in the ship headed for Earth are looking for him!
