Imagine a Star Wars universe where Luke Skywalker is a grizzled, old war veteran, Darth Vader as just another soldier in an intergalactic war without any robotic mechanisms or James Earl Jones’ voice, and Han Solo as a lizard…yes, a lizard.

Those are the early adaptations of the famous saga created by George Lucas in the 1970’s before he rewrote and remade them into the versions we all know and love today from the Star Wars series of films.

An early script from Lucas shows a much different Star Wars universe, but who wouldn’t want to see that come to life in some form or fashion?

Well, Dark Horse comics is making it all come to life in a new eight part comic book series kicking off on Sept 4 titled “The Star Wars” based solely on the early draft of Lucas’ script.

The original script written by Lucas in 1974 still carries some of the overall themes of the Star Wars movies that eventually made it to the silver screen, but there’s a whole lot different as well.

The lead character Luke Skywalker is now the aged warrior who teaches a young Jedi by the name of Annikin Starkiller, while Darth Vader is just a general in the Imperial army, but as the series unfolds you’ll witness additional characters that embody the true nature of the Vader eventually witnessed in the film series.

There are still Jedi knights and the Sith are present as well, but just in a different adaptation than the versions that would eventually make up Lucas’ final script.

Check out some of the art below from the upcoming Dark Horse series set for a Sept 4 release in comic book stores everywhere:
