Coming Soon Candy is like that package of fun dip you got on a hot summer day. So grab your stick and lick. We have a Kung-Fu master, JFK assassin, and some crazy Persians. Enjoy!
1. Last week I thought to myself…what we need is more Kung-Fu. So I decided that this second trailer to Wong Kar Wai’s The Grandmaster was a suitable choice. If you are not familiar with the legendary IP Man, I recommend watching Ip Man 1 and Ip Man 2 with Donnie Yen. However, another film has been made about the legendary Wing Chun Grandmaster who taught the likes of Bruce Lee. This film is being brought to us by Martin Scorsese and Samuel L. Jackson…not sure how they had anything to do with the movie, but they are apparently presenting it.
Wong Kar Wai is a legendary Chinese director who was behind great films like 2046 and In The Mood for Love. Grandmaster is set for limited release this weekend and stars Tony Leung and the beautiful Ziyi Zhang.
Ip Man’s peaceful life in Foshan changes after Gong Yutian seeks an heir for his family in Southern China. Ip Man then meets Gong Er who challenges him for the sake of regaining her family’s honor. After the Second Sino-Japanese War, Ip Man moves to Hong Kong and struggles to provide for his family. In the mean time, Gong Er chooses the path of vengeance after her father was killed by Ma San. Oh and there is a lot of kick ass fight scenes.

2. What the world needs is another movie about the assassination of John F. Kennedy. No? Regardless we are getting one and judging by this trailer, we will probably watch it. The film Parkland is written and directed by Peter Landesman, produced by Playtone Partners’ Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, Bill Paxton and Exclusive Media’s Nigel Sinclair and Matt Jackson. The movie is based on the book Four Days In November, by Vincent Bugliosi. Not only does it have some weight behind it, it also has a pretty good assemble cast in Tom Welling, Zac Efron, Paul Giamatti, Ron Livingston and Billy Bob Thornton to name a few. Although we will never really know who was behind the killing of one of the most beloved US Presidents, there is always an appetitive to relive one of America’s darkest days.
The film is being released for the Oscar buzz on September 20, 2013 which also coincides with the upcoming 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination.
Parkland weaves together the perspectives of a handful of ordinary individuals suddenly thrust into extraordinary circumstances: the young doctors and nurses at Parkland Hospital; Dallas’ chief of the Secret Service; an unwitting cameraman who captured what became the most watched and examined film in history; the FBI agents who nearly had the gunman within their grasp; the brother of Lee Harvey Oswald, left to deal with his shattered family; and JFK’s security team, witnesses to both the president’s death and Vice President Lyndon Johnson’s rise to power over a nation whose innocence was forever altered.

3. Frank Miller’s 300 will always be one of my favorite graphic novels and I enjoyed the movie too. A teaser trailer for the sequel? er…prequel? has just been released. 300: Rise of an Empire, which is a 2014 American-Israeli action film directed by Noam Murro, is supposed to take place before, during and after the events of the 2007 film 300. You still with me? The cast includes Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Callan Mulvey, Hans Matheson, and Jack O’Connell. Also Lena Headey, Rodrigo Santoro, and David Wenham are reprising their roles from the first film. It is scheduled to be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on March 7, 2014. Below is what I was able to find out as far as plot line goes.
The film centers on Themistocles and Artemisia I of Caria, as well as Xerxes I of Persia. The Battle of Artemisium was a naval engagement, concurrent with the battle of Thermopylae, and was fought between an alliance of Greek city-states and the Persian Empire in September 480 BC, in the straits between the mainland and the northern tip of the island of Euboea (modern Evvia). The film will probably also focus, in part, on the Battle of Salamis, in which Artemisia played a major role, as well as possibly the Battle of Marathon. The Battle of Salamis (home of the mythical hero Ajax) was fought after the Persian Empire had advanced into southern Greece and occupied Athens. The film will also cover some of the back story of Xerxes, and will explain how he became “the God King”.

That is all I have for this week my friends. Next Friday, I am going to change things up and show off three documentaries that will be getting a ton of buzz to end 2013. Later freaks!
