Ryan Reynolds recently met with Marvel Studios, which only furthers the speculation that ‘Deadpool 3’ could be on the way sooner rather than later…
The bad news — Ryan Reynolds won’t be playing Tony Stark but the good news is he may have just held his first meeting with Marvel Studios about ‘Deadpool 3’.
This week, Reynolds teased a meeting with Marvel Studios where he presumably sat down with president Kevin Feige to begin plotting the course on his future as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that Disney owns the rights to all of the X-Men characters including the Merc with a Mouth.

Ever since Disney closed the deal to secure the majority of FOX’s assets in a massive deal, rumors have been swirling about the timeline for Marvel to welcome the X-Men into their shared universe of films. Feige started his career in Hollywood working on the original ‘X-Men’ film and those characters have always held a special place in his heart, even when he couldn’t touch them while FOX retained the rights.
Now with Marvel Studios back in full ownership of the X-Men universe, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before a new slate of films will be introduced to bring those characters into the fold. That said, Feige has been cagey about offering any sort of details about when that might happen after he announced ‘Phase 4′ of the Marvel Cinematic Universe this past summer with a slew of films and television series but not a single movie or show featuring the X-Men or their related characters.
Still, Reynolds’ ‘R’ rated take on Deadpool was a massive hit for FOX and when it’s all said and done, he may end up as the only actor to survive the Marvel purge as the company is expected to recast virtually every role before relaunching a new version of the X-Men at some point in the future.
According to Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote both ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Deadpool 2’, Marvel has assured them that they won’t be forced to tone down the language or violence in any future ‘Deadpool’ movies, which bodes well for the popular franchise.
“We’re always in touch with Ryan,” Wernick said when speaking to EW. “We’ve got several projects with him in addition to the Deadpool universe. I think the party line and truth is we’re all still figuring it out. Marvel has promised to continue to let us play in the R-rated Deadpool universe, and the hope is that they will also let us veer into the MCU a little bit as well and play in that sandbox.
“Our feeling and Ryan’s feeling is that it’s got to be the right idea, it’s got to be great… I think once we collectively agree what idea that great idea is we’ll be off to the races. Ryan’s super-busy, we’ve got a lot of projects lined up, but we wake up thinking about Deadpool, and we go to sleep thinking about Deadpool.”
Reese and Wernick have become frequent collaborators with Reynolds including the upcoming Netflix movie ‘6 Underground’, which they also wrote with Michael Bay directing.
Obviously at this point there’s no telling when a third ‘Deadpool’ movie would be released but Reynolds meeting with Marvel Studios definitely seems to point everything in the right direction that plans are in motion on the next film in the series.
