Before “Yellowstone” returns for season 3 this summer, the popular series has already been renewed for season 4 on the Paramount Network.
Led by Kevin Costner, “Yellowstone” has been the top rated cable series during the summer for the past two years, which led to the third season renewal before the second season had even finished. Production on “Yellowstone” season 3 has already wrapped with the show returning to the Paramount Network later this year.
The news about the renewal comes as part of an announcement that also includes “Yellowstone” co-creator Taylor Sheridan inking an overall creative and development deal with ViacomCBS.
Sheridan already has a second series titled “The Mayor of Kingstown” being developed at Paramount. “The Mayor of Kingstown” takes place in a small Michigan town centered on seven federal prisons headed up by the McClusky family, who are the power brokers for the criminals, the cops, the prisoners and politicians who all have something at stake.
Sheridan, who was previously nominated for an Academy Award for his script for the film “Hell or High Water” has become an in demand creator in recent years. He’s also currently working on the film “Those Who Wish Me Dead” starring Angelina Jolie, which is an adaptation of the book by author Michael Koryta. In addition to that, Sheridan wrote the script for an adaptation of the Tom Clancy novel “Without Remorse” with Michael B. Jordan attached to star.
“Yellowstone” will return to Paramount Network this summer with season 4 expected to debut in 2021. “The Mayor of Kingstown” has already been picked up to series, although there’s no word yet on when that show will begin production.
