Donald Glover will finally star in his own “Spider-Man” film but it’s probably not what you’re thinking.

The prolific actor, rapper and producer will star in a new spinoff film based around an obscure, C-level villain named Hypno-Hustler from Sony. This is another in a long line of films involving characters from the “Spider-Man” universe that will almost certainly not actually feature Spider-Man in the movie.

Fresh off the final season of “Atlanta,” Glover was once touted as a potential star for his own “Spider-Man” film after fans suggested he should be cast in the lead role following an article written by Marc Bernardin that suggested anybody could portray Peter Parker and it didn’t always have to be a white guy. Glover never landed that role but he did make a brief appearance in the film “Spider-Man: Homecoming” as Aaron Davis — the uncle to Miles Morales, who becomes Spider-Man in the alternate Ultimate Marvel universe.

Now Glover will get to star in his own “Spider-Man” spinoff films while portraying one of the most random villains to ever appear in the comic books.

Hypno-Hustler aka Antoine Desloin is the lead singer of a group known as the Mercy Killers, who use music to hypnotize their audience in order to rob them blind. On his own, Hypno-Hustler can play music on his guitar that will also hypnotize a person, which he has also used in the past to steal and rob people.

Hypno-Hustler has often been regarded as one of Spider-Man’s worst or most hilarious villains. Now Glover will attempt to find some way to transform that character into something interesting enough to turn into an entire film.

Glover is also acting as a producer on the Hypno-Hustler movie, which will come from Sony and won’t have any larger attachment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe but rather the Sony “Spider-Man” series of films, which also includes Venom, Morbius and several other upcoming features already in the works.
