Nero’s work isn’t done because actor Jimmy Smits has signed a deal to return to Sons of Anarchy for the final season next year…
Sons of Anarchy will pick up filming several months from now as the final season comes barreling down upon us like a Harley going 120 MPH, but as creator Kurt Sutter starts to craft the final chapter in this outlaw opus, one of the show’s top talents has already signed on for season seven.
Jimmy Smits — who plays gangster Nero Padilla — has signed on to return for season seven of the show next year to reprise his role as the final episodes begin airing in September 2014.
Smits joined the cast during season five as a special guest and he was eventually added as a series regular for season six, but there was no confirmation he would return next year until Wednesday night.
Sutter revealed the news to TVLine.com when speaking briefly about what happens next season.
“Yeah we made a deal with Jimmy. I love him and feel that he brings such gravitas to the show… I want to be able to play that out,” Sutter said.
When we last left Nero he cut ties with the MC after Jax lied to him about killing Darvany, the young woman whose son shot up his school with the illegal guns they were selling on the street, and also broke up with Gemma before the finale ended. Now Nero is getting into bed with his old friend Marcus Alvarez and the Mayan MC as well as a new alliance with the Chinese gun runners in Oakland.
Season seven of Sons of Anarchy — the final season — will pick up production next summer before it debuts on FX in September 2014.
