Big news for the new Batman prequel ‘Gotham’ coming to FOX later this year as they have confirmed a young Bruce Wayne will appear along with several villains from the rogue’s gallery….
There were plenty of questions surrounding the new Batman prequel coming to FOX called ‘Gotham‘ which is centered around a younger Jim Gordon before he becomes commissioner and long prior to Batman’s first appearance in Gotham City.
Now some answers are starting to come together from Kevin Reilly, the president of FOX, during a meeting with the Television Critics Association on Monday.
According to Reilly, ‘Gotham‘ will feature Gordon in a starring role this time around, but a young Bruce Wayne will indeed make an appearance. It seems the version in ‘Gotham’ will be a child when the series starts, but assuming the show is picked up and runs for several seasons, the end goal is for him to finally don the cape and cowl as the series wraps up.
“We will arc a young Bruce Wayne from a child” of about 12 until whenever the series finale might be, at which point he “puts on the cape,” Reilly said.
In addition to a young Bruce Wayne being added to the cast of ‘Gotham‘, there will also be an evolving group of villains appearing on the show. Reilly expanded by saying that the show will explore the origins of several notable bad guys from the Batman universe including The Riddler, The Penguin and much more.
“This is all of the classic Batman characters, with a young Bruce Wayne, the Penguin, the Riddler, how they came to be,” Reilly said. “What events led up to becoming Catwoman, all with Gotham teetering on the edge.”
Huge news for the upcoming series. Reilly said he’s read the script for the new series and it’s ‘really good’ (although what do you expect him to say?) but there’s no doubt Gotham will be one of the most anticipated shows in the next year. The next step for the series will be casting, which should be a very interesting process as more and more names start popping up in the running for roles like Gordon and young Bruce Wayne.
