‘Being Human’ Season 4 Episode 3 Recap: ‘A Slayer Will Rise’

Josh fights back the wolf, Aiden faces off with his progeny and Sally learns what kind of magic is hiding inside of her…

Something isn’t right with Josh following his transformation from wolf back to man and it doesn’t him long to realize that whatever magic Sally used to ‘fix’ him definitely was not completed to the end. Meanwhile Nora is trying her best to find some kind of normalcy for her life with Josh at home while Sally is still trying to understand the kind of power she’s wielding with her new found magic.

I Hunt Therefore I Am

Following his bloody exit from the wolf, Josh heads back to work for the first time in three months alongside Aiden, who catches him up on the stories he had to tell to explain where his best friend has been for the last several weeks. Thankfully Aiden’s excuse that Josh’s mom had cancer didn’t got as far as the ultimate karmic misdeed of saying she died, but while he was away, his sister really did land in rehab. That whole finding out vampires and werewolves were real thing probably did her in.

During the conversation, Josh dispels one of the greatest pieces of television lore ever known to mankind — do any of these people actually work and hold jobs like the rest of us?

“Seriously when is the administration going to catch on that you, me and Nora are like the worst nurses ever”

Inside the hospital, Josh helps saves a man’s life but as his day moves forward everything around him just gets louder and louder. The wolf’s heightened senses are starting to burn through his skin and while out on a run he ends up chasing down another person just as the beast inside starts to erupt. He bursts out of the hospital and back to the house where he brushes Nora off and goes for another run. It’s apparently the only thing that keeps the wolf at bay.

While relaxing for his nightly run, Josh runs into two vampires who are not only after him, but know his name to boot. They attack but before they can really strike, Josh wolfs out and scares them both away. As Aiden arrives, Josh realizes that the wolf is still inside and can come out to play at any time now. Unlike any other werewolf in history, Josh can turn at will but he’s also scared that the animal’s instincts are taking over and will eventually rule once again. He finally quits his job at the hospital and confides his feelings with Nora who promises they will fight this new problem together and the wolf will only be unleashed during the one day of the month where he’s allowed to play.

Oh, Oh, Oh It’s Magic

Sally’s magical powers are still growing as she keeps reading this book she found during last week’s episode. The weird part about the text is it continuously changes with new spells being added constantly. At one point, Sally even sees a spell that will make her door appear to allow an escape from this world into heaven. When she reads the incantation, Donna arrives and tells Sally that it was all part of her plan to get freed so she could convince her to return to the netherworld where they can’t do anymore damage. Sally protests and bursts them both into flames and as the book burns, all of the spells seep inside of her as Donna disappears.

Sally now has the magic inside with the knowledge of the spell book running through her veins. She decides to do one good thing amidst all the bad she’s already endured — Sally wants to take away Nora’s scars inflicted when her ex-boyfriend burned her years ago. Following a pasty mix and a few words uttered, Nora removes the bandages covering her midsection to reveal flawless pearl like skin where she cries tears of joy after saying goodbye to a reminder of a life she left behind many years ago.

Unfortunately, Sally isn’t so lucky.

As it turns out, every time Sally performs a bit of magic, she gets sucked back into a time warp this time popping her into the house she appeared in during the season debut. She runs into the young lady who was murdered by a sacrificial cult very much alive and serving cocktail franks at a party (thus the title of the episode ‘Lil Smokies’). Back at the house after she re-appears, Sally sees a message written on the wall that says ‘Don’t Leave Me’. She’s now convinced that her trips into the past aren’t punishment but giving her a mission to save this girl who was killed years earlier.

The New King of Boston

Aiden finally comes face to face with his progeny Kenny, who is now running Boston after finding a way to alter his appearance back from the ghastly creature he had become at the end of last season. Under his leadership, Kenny has transformed the vampire scene back into something Bishop would be proud to see, fully equipped with the funeral home up and running and a new live blood bank that looks more like a club than the medieval torture chamber that once haunted the Boston underground. Kenny wants Aiden to run Boston with him, but of course his father wants nothing to do with that after two failed attempts already ended miserably.

Following Josh’s attack at the hands of two vampires, Aiden confronts his child where he learns that Kenny ordered the hit. Aiden quickly challenges Kenny to a fight with one of them not walking out of the forest alive. Kenny reveals that he was only going to kill Josh so Aiden would have no choice but to return to him and help run Boston.

Kenny then makes an even bigger revelation — his grotesque form was never actually healed. In reality, the special power he gained from his rather strange creation during the entire virus infestation was that he can now compel vampires like they can do to humans. The vampires only see Kenny as a healthy, good looking teenager but in reality he’s still holding an inner-Elephant man that pops out if he’s not concentrating or really hungry.

Just then, Kenny gets an emergency call summoning him back to the club in an emergency

Suzanna the Vampire Slayer

The club that Kenny opened is full of dead vampires turned to dust, but luckily he has a video surveillance system set up to catch the entire act on tape. As the video plays out, a lone attacker storms the club slicing and dicing their way through an entire room full of vampires.

Once the carnage is done the mystery slayer is revealed — it’s Suzanna, Aiden’s ex-wife.

It seemed last week when she was punishing herself for the 200 year old crime of eating her own son in a fit of vampire hunger that there was more to her story than meets the eye. It appears Suzanna is on a mission to kill all vampires and that could very well included Aiden and Kenny.
