Sony is getting aggressive with their plans for Spider-Man movies in the next few years, but after completing the trilogy for the Amazing Spider-Man, director Marc Webb will bow out of the series…
Three movies focused on everyone’s favorite neighborhood web-slinger will be enough for director Marc Webb, who revealed recently that he will exit the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ franchise after he completes the third piece of the trilogy in the next few years.
‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ will open in theaters on May 2, 2014 with the stars and producers already expected to head right back into the studio to work on a third part to the superhero franchise. Webb will complete the third film and then hand the reigns off to another director if there will be a fourth movie in the series.
“I want to help and contribute, but I think three movies…honestly, that’s it for me,” Webb said recently. “I want to try other things.”
Sony is currently planning an aggressive move with the Spider-Man franchise over the next few years, producing the stand-alone feature films but then adding in a huge collection of accessory movies featuring some of the villains from the character’s long running history.
Webb said he may be willing to contribute as a consultant or advisor if need be, but his days of directing Spider-Man will end after he finishes with part three of the current series.
