Filming for ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ will begin in May with the story taking place 30 years after the events in the last Star Wars film ‘Return of the Jedi’….
London’s Pinewood Studios will serve as the primary home for filming of the highly anticipated return to the big screen for Star Wars as director JJ Abrams and his cast and crew will report there in May to start production.
While it’s expected that shooting locations will move outside of the London studio, that will be the base of operations for the upcoming Star Wars film — the first without creator George Lucas behind the camera.
In addition to the filming schedule announced on Tuesday, Lucasfilm and Disney also confirmed a bit of the storyline for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII saying the movie picks up 30 years after the end of ‘Return of the Jedi’.
‘Return of the Jedi’ was the final piece of the original Star Wars trilogy released in 1983. The new film will pick up three decades later with “a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces.”
Among the new cast members that are expected to be announced in the coming weeks is ‘Girls’ actor Adam Driver, who is likely in line to play the villain in the upcoming sequel. Several other roles are still awaiting to be filled including the leads, who will star alongside original Star Wars cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.
Star Wars: Episode VII will land in theaters on on December 18, 2015.
