‘Jem and the Holograms’ Being Re-Imagined as Live Action Film

Another classic 1980’s cartoon will come to life on the big screen as John M. Chu, director of GI Joe Retaliation, will revamp ‘Jem and the Holograms’ for a new film…

GI Joe and the Transformers have both been revamped as movies over the last few years and now the classic cartoon and doll series ‘Jem and the Holograms’ will also get the film treatment courtesy of director John M. Chu.

Chu is responsible for the film ‘GI Joe: Retaliation”, which received very favorable reviews especially compared to the first GI Joe movie, Rise of Cobra. Now Chu is teaming with horror film producer Jason Blum to make a new movie surrounding Jem and the Holograms.

The 1980’s Hasbro toy series turned cartoon focused on Jerrica Benton, who doubled as Jem — the lead singer of a pop group called the Holograms. Jem and her group get in numerous adventures over the course of the series and in many ways the show was an alternative for girls who wanted an action/adventure show of their own similar to GI Joe or the Transformers.

Chu and Blum are relaunching the series as a feature film, and they are actually looking to fans to help come up with creative ideas for the new movie. From casting to costumes to the actual story, the creative team behind the new ‘Jem and the Holograms’ posted a video to encourage fans to participate in the new movie.
