While it seemed like a good idea at the time, Jessica Chastain won’t be starring in ‘True Detective’ season 2…
It took less than 12 hours after the news broke that Jessica Chastain, star of ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, had been offered one of the leads in ‘True Detective’ season 2 for the rumor to immediately get shot down by both her reps and HBO.
Now a day after that ruckus calmed down, Chastain herself has put an end to the speculation while appearing on the red carpet at an event in Cannes this week. The actress was there in support of the Cannes Cinema Against Aids benefit for amFAR, and while she didn’t address or deny the story that she had been offered the part on the popular HBO anthology series, she did shoot down any chance that she would be starring in the show.
“I’m gonna watch the second season just like I watched every episode of the first. But I won’t be on it,” Chastain said.
Chastain is currently a very busy actress with parts in several upcoming projects either in pre or post production so it seemed that her schedule may not even allow her to do a series like ‘True Detective’, but then again considering the awards and accolades the show received for season one it seems crazy to think every actor in Hollywood wouldn’t enjoy getting an offer to appear on season 2.
The hardest part about this rumor, according to Chastain, is the comparisons it will draw once an actor or actress is actually selected for season 2. Despite never actually being attached to the show, the fact that her name was bantered about means that whoever lands the part will have to deal with the fallout from this rumored casting.
“It’s such an awkward thing,” Chastain said. “That news broke yesterday and it went crazy on the internet. There was so much of an explosion. Also it’s an awkward thing because when all that attention happens, it takes away from whoever plays the role.”
The search continues for new actors or actresses to fill the roles for ‘True Detective’ season 2. Creator Nic Pizzolatto was working on the scripts for the next season while the first was wrapping up, so it appears everything is full steam ahead if casting is already being discussed.
