Following weeks of speculation that included former ‘Dexter’ star Michael C. Hall’s name being thrown around, the new Daredevil will be ‘Boardwalk Empire’ veteran Charlie Cox…
English actor Charlie Cox — best know for his role in ‘Boardwalk Empire’— has been confirmed as the lead actor in the upcoming series ‘Daredevil’ from Marvel and Netflix.
Cox will play blind lawyer Matt Murdock in the upcoming series expected to begin production in New York this summer with a debut date some time in 2014 via Netflix.
The search for a lead actor had been ongoing for the past couple of months with several names being tossed around as possibilities, but ultimately the producers decided to go with Cox in the headline spot.
Beyond his role in Boardwalk Empire where he played No. 2 to show star Steve Buscemi, Cox has also played in the film ‘Stardust’ as well as a guest role in the popular British series ‘Downton Abbey’.
Now it appears Cox is set to take over a starring role in what is expected to be a major show for Netflix later this year. The news from ‘Daredevil’ comes just days after a shakeup at show runner where writer/director Drew Goddard recently left the project as ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ writer Steven S. DeKnight took over the role.
‘Daredevil’ will be the first series from the new Marvel/Netflix partnership with three more shows as well as a miniseries already ordered from the subscription based network.
The news of Cox’s hiring was initially reported by Latino Review.
