The director responsible for the new Fantastic Four reboot will also get to direct one of the new ‘Star Wars’ spinoff movies as announced on Wednesday…
As soon as Disney purchased Lucasfilm from creator George Lucas a couple of years ago, everyone suspected that the mouse house would move quickly to monetize on the franchise and that includes new ‘Star Wars’ spinoff movies coming each year in between the major feature films.
‘Godzilla’ director Gareth Edwards will get to direct the first ‘Star Wars’ spinoff movie expected to be released the year following ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ and now a second film has been added as well.
Josh Trank — who is currently in production for the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot — will direct a second Star Wars spinoff movie for Disney.
“The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood,” Trank said on Wednesday. “The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.”
While no one at Disney has confirmed which characters will receive spinoff movies, rumors have swirled around three in particular — Han Solo, Boba Fett and Yoda. How true those rumors are remains a mystery but given the speed that Disney is making to release information about the new films, details could come at any time.
