It’s been a week full of announcements from comic book giant Marvel with the latest news instilling a new Captain America this October…
On Wednesday night during The Colbert Report on Comedy Central (random and odd choice of venue), Marvel CCO Joe Queseda announced that Sam Wilson aka The Falcon would be picking up the star-spangled shield as Captain America this October.
The announcement comes just days after Marvel dropped the news that a woman would be taking over the character of Thor for the first time ever in October as well.
Sam Wilson has been a part of the Captain America universe for decades, usually acting as one of the hero’s numerous sidekicks in his attempts to thwart evil doers from across the globe. The character also came to life on the big screen recently as Anthony Mackie played the role in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’.
Wilson briefly adopted the Captain America costume in 1999 when Steve Rogers was believed to be dead, but this will be the first time he’s fully taken on the role since being introduced in the comics in 1969.
Writer Rick Remender will pen the book with the release date for the new Captain America in October.
