Taylor Kitsch Confirms His Role in “True Detective” Season 2

Following months of speculation, Taylor Kitsch confirms he will be one of the leads in “True Detective” season 2…

It looks like Colin Farrell has his partner for “True Detective” season 2.

Taylor Kitsch has confirmed that he will be playing one of the lead roles in the upcoming series expected to begin filming soon with a summer 2015 debut date on HBO.

Kitsch broke the news with Adweek on Monday.

“Yeah, I’m really excited,” Kitsch said. “I’ve just been prepping. It’s been almost a full year since I’ve been on camera, so I’m itching, man. I’m overdue. You’ve just got to grind it out. Even taking this year off was, I mean you want to work, but you also don’t want to just water it down and work for the sake of working. So, it was tough to sit a year out, keeping a finger crossed that I was going to get True (Detective).”

The actor best known for his roles in “Friday Night Lights” as well as “Lone Survivor” has long been rumored to play one of the cops in season 2 of the critically acclaimed series from creator Nic Pizzolatto.

Colin Farrell was already announced as one of the detectives for the new series while Vince Vaughn will be playing a career criminal in the season expected to focus around the murder of a corrupt city manager in the transportation industry.

Kitsch admitted that he’s actually passed on several jobs just for the chance to do “True Detective” so he’s fired up to get back in front of the camera for the show.

“Yeah, I mean it was just showing a lot of patience on my end and turning a lot of stuff down because I wanted to be a part of it,” Kitsch said. “And having this meeting with Nic Pizzolatto, it kind of brought me back to when I was here in New York and why I wanted to be a actor, why you struggle and why you don’t quit. And when we’re talking, I mean he’s obviously incredibly smart and passionate, so that rubs off. And you’re just excited to go now. I can’t fucking wait to hit camera.

“So I’m excited. I loved that first season of it so much. It’s just unlike anything I’ve seen in, you know, I don’t know when. And it was so grounded. It could really happen. This is very similar, and I love that. It makes it more relatable. It makes these guys more real. Nowadays, it takes fucking balls to stand by that and do it that way.”

There’s still one more major role to be confirmed for “True Detective” and that will be a part played by a female cop. The rumors have swirled about the actress up for that role as well, but it appears Rachel McAdams is the leading candidate (for now).
