The highly anticipated ‘Deadpool’ movie starring Ryan Reynolds now has a female lead to star alongside the Merc with a Mouth.
Morena Baccarin — best known for her roles on ‘Gotham’, ‘Homeland’ and ‘Firefly’ — has signed on as the lead female in the upcoming ‘Deadpool’ adaptation directed by Tim Miller.
Baccarin will play the love interest for Deadpool, played by Reynolds although no name has been given to the character yet.
‘Deadpool’ is based on the Marvel character first popularized in different X-Men books as a mercenary who is imbibed with super powers as part of the Weapon X program (the same one who gave Wolverine his adamantium skeleton). The movie is based on a story where Deadpool is an assassin who contracts cancer, but then undergoes a dangerous operation to cure his disease but it leaves him badly scarred while also giving him super powers.
‘Deadpool’ will begin production in March with a February 12, 2016 release date.
