A few details have been released about Homeland season 5 including a major time jump for the characters in the series…
When last we saw Carrie Matheson she had traveled back to the United States after spending the majority of season 4 in Pakistan trying to seek out a terrorist plot against the U.S. Embassy while also trying to save her mentor Saul after he was kidnapped.
The finale for season 4 ended on a quiet, yet somber note as Carrie walked in on Saul alongside his old friend Dar Adal in what looked like a new partnership being formed.
Homeland season 5 will likely debut in September or October on Showtime, but Executive Producer Alex Gansa let a few details about the upcoming season leak out during a panel at Palyefest on Friday.
— The biggest change from season 4 to season 5 will be about a 2 1/2 year time jump from the last time we saw Carrie Matheson in Washington. There are no details about what changes that will make for her outside of her kid growing up in a hurry, but this is a major switch as the show jumps forward quite a bit from the last season finale.
— Carrie Matheson is no longer with the CIA. According to Gansa she will “no longer be an intelligence officer” but clearly she’s still going to be involved in some kind of security force. Right?
— The show will likely film in Europe with German being the top candidate for a landing spot right now. Last season, the show took place in Pakistan with all of the primary filming actually taking place in South Africa. It’s unknown at this time if Germany will serve as a European landing spot or just the backdrop for another international location.
— No word yet on returning characters for season 5 although obviously Carrie is a lock. What we don’t know for sure is whether or not Rupert Friend will be back to play Jack Bauer-esque operative Peter Quinn.
