Because leaving things well enough alone never works, DC Comics has updated the looks for Superman and Wonder Woman for their upcoming ‘Convergence’ story line….
Every few years one of the two big comic book companies — Marvel or DC — decides to revamp their universe, scrap old ideas and start fresh with something new. In 2014 it seems both of them are looking for a fresh start and over at DC Comics that includes a brand new look for a couple of iconic characters.
As part of the solicitation for DC Comics ahead of the June relaunch where several books will get a dramatic makeover with new writers and artists not to mention a slew of new titles, Superman and Wonder Woman are getting new looks.
Over at Nerdist, the first image of Superman was revealed and it seems The Man of Steel is now a boot kicking street fighter judging by his blue jean and t-shirt apparel not to mention wraps on his hands because nothing says the Man of Tomorrow like bandanas wrapped around your knuckles while getting ready for a backyard brawl.
This isn’t the first time someone has tried to take away Superman’s iconic outfit and cape but apparently DC Comics is determined to give him a modern look so here you go.
Meanwhile at Hitfix, there’s a new Wonder Woman in town as the Amazonian queen also gets a new outfit complete with body armor and wouldn’t you know it — pants!
Finally, one more image courtesy of Hitfix sees Superman (in his new ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin outfit) staring down Batman, who is apparently now a Transformer.
Given the way comic book companies tend to treat major characters like this, expect Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman to be back in their standard duds by around Christmas.
Then again maybe this is a harbinger for what we’re about to see in the upcoming ‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ movie because fans would have a field day with that one!
