Two of the original stars from Kevin Smith’s Mallrats are officially returning for the sequel — Mallrats 2 — as confirmed by the director/writer himself this week.
First up was Shannon Doherty, who played Rene in the original film and she committed to the sequel this past weekend while both she and Smith were making an appearance in Toronto.
“Fuck yeah,” Doherty said when appearing on Smith’s podcast when asked if she was coming back for Mallrats 2.

And then on Tuesday, Smith confirmed another leading cast member returning for the film as Jason Lee officially signed on to reprise his beloved role as Brodie, the comic-book loving slacker with a love of chocolate covered pretzels.

Smith has already confirmed several other cast members from the 1995 film ‘Mallrats’ returning for the sequel including Michael Rooker, Marvel icon Stan Lee, and Jason Mewes.
‘Mallrats 2’ is expected to go into production in 2016 after Smith finishes up work on his next two movies, ‘Clerks 3’ and ‘Moose Jaws’.
