It seemed like a natural to have Aaron Paul reprise his role as Jesse Pinkman on the new Breaking Bad spinoff ‘Better Call Saul’, but now it appears that may not happen….
The upcoming spinoff from ‘Breaking Bad’ titled ‘Better Call Saul’ starring Bob Odenkirk is set as a prequel of sorts to the show focused on former chemistry teacher Walter White and his transformation to meth kingpin.
Odenkirk’s portrayal as less than scrupulous attorney Saul Goodman earned him rave reviews during his time on the show, which in no small part helped him spur on the spinoff series set to debut from AMC this November.
The new series will reunite Odenkirk with Jonathan Banks, who played Mike Ehrmantraut, on ‘Breaking Bad’ and the show creators haven’t ruled out the possibility of other past characters also appearing, but those numbers may be dwindling.
When ‘Better Call Saul’ was first announced it seemed like a forgone conclusion that Aaron Paul would reprise his role as Jesse Pinkman for at least a cameo appearance on the new series, but now it’s looking less likely that he’ll show up in his old New Mexico stomping grounds.
In a recent interview with AMC, Paul states he would love to appear on the show and reunite with his old ‘Breaking Bad’ family, but as of right now that seems to be a long shot.
“If they’ll have me, I’d love to be a part of it. I’m not sure if that’s in the cards,” Paul said. “I’m so jealous that everyone is back in Albuquerque, back in the same stages where we shot Breaking Bad. It’s so strange to me that the Saul Goodman office has been rebuilt and they’re shooting on it right now. I’m so happy for everyone involved.”
Whether he ends up making at least a brief appearance on the new show remains to be seen, but Paul will surely be reminded of his time on ‘Breaking Bad’ from now until forever.
Especially considering every time he walks down the street at least one person calls him ‘bitch’.
“It’s been over a year since I played him. I used to dream as if I were him,” Paul said about his portrayal as Jesse Pinkman. “That was a little strange. People still call me “bitch” every day.”
Paul’s next work is in the upcoming independent film ‘Hellion’ where he plays an alcoholic widower who tries to maintain being a single parent to a delinquent, hell on wheels teenager. Hellion was released on June 13 worldwide.
