While two Marvel shows did get renewed on Thursday, the planned ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ spinoff starring Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood is officially dead in the water…
ABC announced on Thursday that both ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and ‘Agent Carter’ had been renewed for the 2015/2016 TV season but a third Marvel series has just been dropped after talks started just weeks ago about bringing a third show into development.
The ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ spinoff series that was expected to star Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood has officially been shelved according to Deadline.
The original plan was for Palicki and Blood’s characters — Agent Bobbi ‘Mockingbird’ Morse and her wayward husband Lance Hunter — to spinoff from the main series with a show of their own in the vein of ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’.
Unfortunately, there was a lot of backlash from fans who felt like Palicki and Blood were two of the strongest additions to the main cast and weren’t happy that they might be leaving already after only spending one season on the show.
So it appears ABC and Marvel have cancelled plans to develop the ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ spinoff for now.
Obviously the show could find new life at some point down the road but for now there’s no plan to further develop a script or pitch the show to ABC for a potential pickup or pilot order.
