The 1988 sci-fi film ‘Alien Nation’ will get a remake and re-imagining from 20th Century FOX with the writers from ‘Iron Man’ on board to pen the script…
‘Alien Nation’ — the 1988 science fiction film starring James Caan and Mandy Patinkin (Saul from ‘Homeland’!) — is getting a makeover from 20th Century FOX as the studio hopes to relaunch the franchise in the same fashion that ‘Planet of the Ape’ has received with two movies in recent years.
The original film focused on a new world after aliens landed on Earth after escaping their own home as they tried to integrate into our society with limited results. While set in a science-fiction backdrop, the movie and subsequent TV show (which was superior in my humble opinion) did manage to have a strong social message as well as the aliens were often treated with ill-will and segregation for no other reason than not being human.
Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are on board to write the script for the new ‘Alien Nation’. They are best known as the writers of the original ‘Iron Man’ movie directed by Jon Favreau.
The idea 20th Century FOX has for the relaunch of ‘Alien Nation’ is to build the franchise over the course of a few movies. The first film would primarily focus on the alien landing on Earth and the initial reaction.
If plans go well, ‘Alien Nation’ could see several sequels but that always depends on how the first movie is received.
