‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Adds Yet Another Villain as The Spider Slayer Joins the Cast

There will be no shortage of villains for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ as actor BJ Novak will portray Alistair Smythe aka The Spider Slayer in the upcoming movie…

Sometimes less is more…

But when it comes to ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘, director Marc Webb is going to toss in as many bad guys as possible when he brings the sequel to theaters on May 2.

While we already know that Jamie Foxx will be portraying Electro, Paul Giamatti will play Rhino, and Dane DeHaan will be The Green Goblin, tack on yet another big bad as Webb revealed on Monday that BJ Novak (The Office) will be playing Alistair Smythe aka The Spider Slayer.

Almost shot ASM2 in B+W til @bjnovak's (A. Smythe) promo for his excellent book ONE MORE THING beat me to it: http://t.co/axmFgum6fJ

Now there’s no telling from this brief mention just how much Alistair Smythe in the movies will emulate the version from the comic books, but we do know that he’s not going to be a good guy if his history tells us anything.

In the comic books, Alistair Smythe is a scientist and creator who carries on his father’s work to destroy Spider-Man by building robots called Spider-Slayers. Eventually, Smythe turns himself into a human weapon built with a bio-organic carapace fully equipped with body armor and the ability to give himself super human strength among other weapons.

Amazing Spider Man 2 will open in theaters on May 2 in the United States.
