American Crime Story Season 2 Will Focus on Hurricane Katrina

American Crime Story won’t debut season one until Feb. 2 on FX but creator Ryan Murphy has already set up plans for season 2 ….

American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson is definitely one of the most highly anticipated new shows of the winter with American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy championing the show that will tell the story behind the story of the infamous OJ Simpson trial in 1995.

As excited as everyone seems to be about American Crime Story debuting in February, Murphy isn’t slowing down because he’s already broken down the subject matter for season 2 (assuming the show is renewed). The executives at FX love what they’ve seen out of the first season so it might seem like a formality that the show will get picked up and Murphy has already chosen Hurricane Katrina as the plot for the sophomore season of American Crime Story.

Now that might not seem like a ‘crime’ similar to the OJ Simpson murder trial, but as Murphy explains, what happened during Hurricane Katrina was very much a criminal act and he plans to unravel that story on his show.

“I want this show to be a socially conscious, socially aware examination of different types of crime around the world,” Murphy said in December. “And in my opinion, Katrina was a fucking crime — a crime against a lot of people who didn’t have a strong voice, and we’re going to treat it as a crime. That’s what this show is all about.”

Hurricane Katrina was one of the most colossal and devastating events in American history as the storm hit Louisiana and surrounding areas in 2005, leaving millions of people displaced from their homes with more than 1,200 people dead and damages estimated over $100 billion dollars.

The plot of the show as it stands would be following “a group of six to eight people in an attempt to examine all sides of the tragedy, from the Superdome in New Orleans to the hospital to those who were put on buses and dropped off with babies who had to wear trash bags for multiple days”.

From the sound of things, Murphy already has a lot laid out for American Crime Story season two and considering the rave reviews he’s gotten thus far on American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson, there’s little doubt he’ll start work on that later this year.
