The theme for the seventh season of ‘American Horror Story’ has finally been revealed…
Creator Ryan Murphy finally revealed late last week that the title of the latest season of ‘American Horror Story’ will be “American Horror Story: Cult”, which takes place surrounding the events of the 2016 Presidential Election.
The show will premiere on FX on Wednesday, September 5 following last season’s ‘American Horror Story: Roanoke’, which debuted without any information being revealed about the theme whatsoever.
This time around, Murphy has revealed a little more information but there’s still a ton of questions about what ‘American Horror Story: Cult’ will focus around when it comes to the election.
The reveal was made during San Diego Comic Con last week with a creepy video accompanied by this voiceover as the title for the show was unveiled.
“Do you ever feel alone? Does it seem like no one really understands you? Do some people just make you sick? Are you afraid? We can set you free. We will make you strong. We want you.”
In the video, a haunting group of clowns are dancing in unison with another cut away while some are carrying weapons like axes and hammers. Murphy had previously teased that Twisty the Clown — a character from ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ — would be re-appearing during ‘American Horror Story: Cult’ so it would seem the clown theme will play out this season.
Murphy later revealed that two characters played by Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson would be named Ally and Kai and it would be a “love story for the ages”, which would mark the second season in a row where the actors were involved in an on screen relationship together. Peters and Paulson are two of the actors who have appeared in every single season of ‘American Horror Story’ thus far.

Murphy also revealed via Twitter that the show will take place in Michigan over 11 episodes during the Presidential Election. The cast members this season include Peters, Paulson, Frances Conroy, Mare Winningham, Cheyenne Jackson, Billie Lourd, Colton Haynes, Allison Pill, Billy Eichner, and Lena Dunham will appear in at least one episode this season.
Murphy then teased ‘American Horror Story: Cult’ as the “heaviest” season the show has ever done.
Obviously, Murphy and company are notorious for revealing several teasers before the season begins so expect a few more of these creepy videos to be unleashed before the show finally debuts.
‘American Horror Story: Cult’ will finally land on FX on Wednesday night, September 5 at 10pm ET.
