The next installment of ‘American Horror Story’ titled ‘Freak Show’ won’t debut until October but creator Ryan Murphy has released a few details about the new season….
‘American Horror Story’ has covered some interesting subjects thus far in its three season run — we covered the haunted house, the creepy asylum and a coven full of witches — but now the horror anthology will travel to a spooky carnival for season 4 and there are now a few details about the series.
Ryan Murphy spoke to EW this weekend to reveal some spoilers for the upcoming series, which will film this summer with a debut date expected for October on FX.
What we already know is that Jessica Lange’s character will run the 1950’s carnival set in Florida as a German ex-pat. Several past cast members are returning including Evan Peters as well as new actors like Michael Chiklis, best know for his role on ‘The Shield’.
As far as the setting for the show goes, Murphy believes this could be the scariest version of the series yet because he plans to tap into some seriously creepy mythology including everyone’s life long fear of clowns.
“I just love it. It feels really right. I thought it was going to be light but it’s turning out to be quite terrifyingly dark, which it feels much more like the Asylum season,” Murphy said. “But look — if you have a character named the Clown Killer, it’s going to be dark.”
When asked for details about the character named ‘Clown Killer’, Murphy expanded and said it will be the ‘most terrifying clown ever’.
He also revealed that the other carnival freak show regulars like the bearded lady will make an appearance, although they will have the ‘American Horror Story’ flavor to all of them.
