‘American Horror Story’ Season 6: Hints Reveal Lost Colony Theme

Set photos from ‘American Horror Story’ season 6 have leaked and it appears the show may feature the infamous Lost Colony of Roanoke…

The mystery surrounding the theme for ‘American Horror Story’ season 6 still remains despite the show debuting in September but new set photos posted by TMZ this week may have revealed at least part of the plot for the new version of the show.

Judging by the photos, part of ‘American Horror Story’ this season will be set in colonial times with many of the actors and actresses around set being seen in Pilgrim era clothing.

Add to that one very particular photo that was captured shows the word ‘CROATOAN’ carved into a tree.

Now that word likely pays reference to the infamous disappearance of 117 colonists who landed on Roanoke Island in 1587 before their leader John White returned to England to gather supplies for the new colony. Due to a brewing war, White was unable to return to the island for three years, but when he finally came back in 1590, everybody left at the colony was gone although there were no signs of a struggle or battle at the sight where they set up camp.

The only thing left behind was the word ‘CROATOAN’ carved into one of the trees and another with ‘CRO’ carved into the trunk. White took this to mean that the colonists may have left and moved to Croatoan Island, now named Hetteras Island, just off the coast of North Carolina.

Unfortunately efforts to find the friends and family he left behind were never successful and there have been supernatural theories for centuries about what actually happened to the Lost colonists from Roanoke Island.

Obviously, no one from ‘American Horror Story’ has confirmed these rumors but the teasers released last week would seem to fit with at least part of the them surrounding the Lost Colony.

What we do know for sure is that ‘American Horror Story’ season 6 was expected to take place in at least two time periods with a modern setting for part of the show so that could mean the flashbacks might show the Lost Colony and what exactly happened to those 117 settlers more than 500 years ago.

Let the speculation begin but at least for now, ‘American Horror Story’ season 6 certainly appears to be based around the Lost Colony in some way, shape or form!

‘American Horror Story’ season 6 debuts on FX on September 14.
