Ryan Murphy announced on Thursday that American Horror Story season 8 will be titled ‘Witches Rule’ and will feature the crossover from season one to season three….
The long awaited American Horror Story crossover season is finally happening.
Creator Ryan Murphy revealed on Thursday that the upcoming American Horror Story season 8 will feature the crossover between season one — affectionately known as ‘Murder House’ — and season three ‘Coven’.
“The Coven/Murder House AHS crossover season won’t be happening next year…because it’s happening THIS YEAR. AHS #8 WITCHES RULE THIS SEPTEMBER,” Murphy wrote on Twitter.
Murphy had previously teased the crossover season with an idea that struck him prior to season 7 — American Horror Story: Cult — and now it appears that plan is coming to fruition with season 8.
The idea was that at least one character from the first season of American Horror Story would be appearing at Miss Robichaux’s academy, which was where American Horror Story: Coven took place in season three. The character would be popping up at the academy where new Supreme Cordelia Foxx is now running things.
“It’s a character from season 1 that will be thrust into the world that you are left with at the end of Coven, which is sort of like the male/female/witch academy,” Murphy said about the American Horror Story crossover back in 2017.
“And then all of those characters will intertwine, which is confusing because some of them are from seasons 1 and 3. Like, Sarah Paulson will probably be playing 18 characters.”
Murphy had previously teased that American Horror Story season 8 would be the most ambitious season they’ve done to date and now we know why as he’s planning this massive crossover event from season one and season three.
At this time it’s unknown exactly which characters will be crossing over from one season to the next but obviously the main part of the story will be taking place 18 months into the future following the events that closed out American Horror Story: Coven back in season three.
Several actors have been confirmed for the upcoming season including Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates and newcomer Joan Collins, who will reportedly play Peters’ grandmother in the new season.
“You will see so many fan favorites return that you’ll feel like it’s The Love Boat,” Murphy told EW about the upcoming season. “It’s a very high concept.”
American Horror Story: Witches Rule will debut on FX in September.
