The highly anticipated sequel to ‘Aquaman’ now has an official release date but you’ll be waiting quite some time for this movie to arrive…
‘Aquaman’ will swim into theaters again after huge returns on the initial movie directed by James Wan that starred Jason Momoa in the lead role as Arthur Curry, the reluctant king of Atlantis.
The DC-Warner Bros. film has grossed over $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office, making it one of the most successful superhero films of all time. ‘Aquaman’ is now the biggest money maker in history for the DC and Warner Bros. partnership passing ‘Wonder Woman’ and all of the films in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy.
So it’s no surprise that a sequel has been ordered but ‘Aquaman 2’ won’t arrive in theaters until December 16, 2022.
David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick has been tapped to pen the script for the ‘Aquaman’ sequel.
While fans are waiting on ‘Aquaman 2’ to arrive, a spinoff film titled ‘The Trench’ is also in the worked based around the dark, underwater society of creatures that were featured in the film film. The only downside is neither Momoa or Amber Heard are expected to appear in the spinoff.
