In the latest Banshee recap, Proctor faces the wrath of Fraser and the Black Beards, Colonel Stowe captures Carrie, Sugar and Job and Deva gets arrested…

Kai Proctor has had a rough couple of weeks. And this time it’s through no fault of his own. His mother passed away, Hood strolled into the Savoy Gentlemen’s Club unprovoked and almost killed him, he had to sit in the cell at the Cadi while the Redbones rained down gun fire for an entire evening, and lastly, he was kidnapped by the Black Beards due to Rebecca’s unwise decision to meddle with family business practices.
At the beginning of the latest episode, Proctor finds himself face down in the abandoned Eastern Banshee High School gymnasium. Both his hands and feet are bound while he continues to get punched and kicked repeatedly. This, of course, is merely the appetizer of the multi-course dinner of punishment that is in store for him.
Proctor took his beating like a champ. He did not argue, try to explain the truth—which was that he really didn’t have any idea that Rebecca was dealing to the Salvadorans behind his back—and he certainly didn’t offer up an apology when he was told as much. The Black Beard that was tuning him up learned about the depths of Proctor’s will, tolerance for pain and he found out the hard way about his inherent level of danger, when his nose got bitten off after getting too close to him.
Frazier, the leader of the Black Beards, sat down in front of an unfazed Proctor and told him that his crew would soon finish him off for reneging on the deal they agreed upon, which hinged upon him no longer selling MDMA to Hector Morales and the Salvadorans. Proctor offered to buy his way out of it to make things right, but that went nowhere with the head of the Black Beards. Frazier told him there were only two things left for him to do: “apologize and die.” Proctor, who would be more than content to die before he’d ever kowtow to a rival gangster, informed Frazier he would slit his throat like a cow.
At The Forge, Hood strolls in and informs Sugar that all was settled down in Louisiana. Job is also there and the tension between he and Hood is palpable. Hood nearly got him killed for losing focus during the Camp Genoa heist and Job lets him know that he still isn’t over it, and that maybe their friendship should be over too. In a fantastic flashback sequence—something Banshee has always done well—Hood remembers the first time he and Job met crossed paths. Hood was sent my an old boss named Dalton to kill him, but Job talked his way out of it by offering his expertise and wealth of information to him and they became allies right then and there.
“We got a lot of history, you and me. Maybe that’s all it should be—history.”—Job tells Hood
Gordon drops by to see Carrie at the Miles Diner and drop off their divorce documents. She knew they were due to come, but seeing them was still very difficult to process. The two decide that there may still be hope after all and agree to hold off for now before they officially call it quits.
At the Cadi, a panicked Rebecca shows up and pleads for Hood’s help, but he tells her he can’t be of any assistance. She informs Brock about what happened and that his ex-wife Emily is caught up in it too. This of course, leads Brock into getting Hood’s help to help get Emily to safety. Hood makes an uncomfortable phone call to ask Job to find out where Proctor and Emily may be located. Brock has to explain that Proctor and his ex-wife are dating, which Hood can’t even begin to fathom.
Meanwhile, at Camp Genoa, Colonel Stowe is consulting with his resident computer hacker and information guru, Leo, and he informs the Colonel about his new discovery. It turns out, the ID’s that Sugar and Job used to get into Sterling Industries for recon on the heist happened to get stored into a data backup due to a power outage, which, luckily, allowed Leo to discover both of them. He used facial recognition to discover Sugar and Stowe pegs him as the van driver. However, Leo said he could not find any info on Job. Being the hacker he is and knowing what he knows, Leo makes a hypothesis—while geeking out about it— that the hacker they are looking for is literally the greatest hacker to ever live, and that the online fanboys call him “Job.” Banshee watchers knew Job was one of the best, but now we know that he is the absolute best and how he got his name. Even during its third season, Banshee continues to add depth to the main characters and it is always refreshing.
Hood and Brock show up at the abandoned High School and the Sheriff makes a deal with Fraser to release Emily and he leaves Proctor behind. As they walk out, Clay and Rebecca—who followed them there—head inside. Rebecca is beside herself that Hood would leave her Uncle behind. The Black Beard that has his nose bit off doused Proctor with gasoline and was set to light him on fire, but Proctor kicked him, fell back to the ground to break his chair and freed himself. He then used a chair leg to disable one of the three men, stole his uzi and took out the other two. When Clay and Rebecca break the locked door in to save him, he is pouring gasoline over the three Black Beards while reciting a verse from the King James Bible, before setting them on fire.
“After my mother died, I thought the grace of God was pulling me back. That wasn’t God. That was just grief. To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time, for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.”—Proctor recites to the Black Beards before setting them on fire.
Deva gets arrested after getting caught smoking weed by Deputy Raven. When Gordon comes to pick her up at the Cadi, he informs Deputy Bunker that he intends to leave her in the cell over night. Deva, pleads to go home, but Gordon is going the “tough love” route to teach his wayward daughter a lesson. Later on, Hood returns, and when he sees Deva, he immediately gets her out of the cell, despite Bunker informing him of the mayor’s wishes, and takes her home.
Brock drops Emily off at her house and she refuses to listen to him or realize how close she was to dying because of her involvement with Proctor. She calls Brock jealous and attempts to drive off, but he shoots two of her tires out. In another classic moment of levity from Brock, he walks to his car and yells out “you’re welcome for saving your God damned life.”Emily later receives a visit from Proctor, who tells her they will no longer see each other and that she will be properly compensated for her work with his mother. As Proctor gets in the car, we see Rebecca crack a very wry smile. Although, she most likely won’t be smiling when her Uncle exacts discipline on her for nearly getting him killed. It’s likely that she gets the boot from his house shortly, but it appeared as though her Uncle has had enough headaches for one day.
Colonel Stowe dropped by The Forge and let it be known he was aware that Sugar was part of the heist. Sugar had the shotgun behind the bar, but one of Stowes mercenaries came in the front door firing away. Making matters worse, Job was on his way in to see Sugar and got pricked by a sedative from Stowe’s hacker, Leo, which left him incapacitated. With two down and two to go, Stowe grabs Carrie leaving the Miles Diner after her shift, which leaves only Hood.
“You know the craziest thing happened the other day. Four idiots decided to steal a considerable amount of my money. But, that’s not the craziest part. These guys actually thought they were going to get away with it.”—Colonel Stowe tells Sugar
All three of them are being held at the now decommissioned Camp Genoa. Leo is with Job, who is just awaking from the sedative. Carrie is strung up on a fork lift with her ankles zip tied together and Stowe is beating her to get the name of the fourth person who joined them for the heist. Stowe, nor any of his cronies have the slightest clue that it is the Banshee Sheriff they are looking for. And Carrie, Sugar and Job aren’t going to sing for the Colonel anytime soon.
Hood heads to The Forge and notices Sugar and Job aren’t there. He also sees the broken glass and bottles behind the bar. With his knife, he pries out a bullet from the back of the bar. Gordon walks in all pissed off because Hood went against his wishes and took Deva home. The Sheriff places the bullet down on the bar. Gordon, a former Marine, immediately recognizes it as a 5.56mm NATO Green Tip bullet. Hood asks him if he knows where Anna is (Carrie’s real name). He then asks if he knows where his wife is. Realizing that his wife is once again in, yet, another grave situation, he asks Hood, “what the fuck did you do now?”
When Chayton was killed in Episode 8, I thought it was premature and that it could’ve dragged on until the finale. But, now I see why Greg Yaitanes and Jonathan Tropper decided to leave Stowe and the aftermath of the Camp Genoa heist for this past episode and the climax of Season 3. With three main characters being held hostage, and both Hood and Gordon being involved, this story may not get wrapped up in the finale. Hood will no doubt, need Bunker, Brock, Gordon and whoever else he can get to take on Stowe and his band of mercenaries. There are several avenues that they can head down for this story line. Someone may end up dead, or we may end up having to wait until the start of Season 4 to learn the fate of any one of the three captives after it is all said and done. The finales of the first two seasons were both great, so I would expect the next one to follow suit. I’m banking on at least one or two deaths, and a major plot twist or reveal headed our way. One thing is for certain, before they put a bow on this season, there will be plenty of bloodshed in Banshee.
One more week #Fanshees.
