Job visits New York after finding out Rabbit’s location, Carrie tells Gordon an unsettling truth and Deputy Yawners tells Sheriff Hood he’s not coming back…
By Michael Stets — Staff Writer/Co-Host Charming’s Most Wanted podcast
A funny thing happened on the way to New York, Job didn’t tell anyone he was going! The criminal computer hacker had zeroed in on Rabbit’s location, due to Agent Racine’s records, and decided to head in by himself. While roaming around in the bowels of the Church, he found himself held at gunpoint by Rabbit’s brother Yulish (Ooooops). Luckily, while being beaten up for information, Job was able to escape in what was one of the best choreographed, fight scenes by Marcus Young this season featuring: throwing knives, some well executed hand-to-hand combat, a gun disarming and a shoot out within the confines of the Church. Unfortunately, after making his escape, Job was hit by a taxi and sent to New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Hood is at the Cadi and he is welcomed by Deputy Yawners in his office. The Sheriff takes out his badge and gun to hand to the Deputy, but he informs him he is leaving to live with his sister in Florida. He tells Hood it was an honor to work along side him.
White supremacist Matt Sharp is recuperating in the hospital after the severe beating from Deputy Yawners last episode and he receives a visit from Clay Burton. In true Godfather fashion, Burton tells Sharp a message from Proctor before strangling him to death.
“Mr. Proctor has asked me to inform you that your services will know longer be required.”—Burton tells Sharp before strangling him in his hospital bed.
Burton’s work is never done however, and next we see him at the Savoy Gentlemen’s club with a fresh garrote in hand. He is obviously looking to end the life of Juliet, since Rebecca mentioned the stripper was the only other person who would’ve known the information that Hood was able to obtain on the drug warehouse. In a very well shot scene, there is no visible dialogue just the scene unfolding over music. Clay heads to the dressing room, but before he gets there Rebecca warns Juliet what awaits her if she stays. Burton opens the door to find no one there. Juliet skipping town is not good news for the BSD in their case on Proctor, as now they will have to lay all their faith in Alex Longshadow.
The next scene may surprise a lot of Banshee viewers, but not if you pay attention to the Banshee Origins series. Sugar pays a visit to Proctor in prison. Why? Because Proctor visited him while he was incarcerated and years later he is returning the favor. Sugar once killed a man with his boxing skills while protecting Proctor. Visibly irritated by Sugar’s visit, Proctor informs him that if he stands in his way while he goes after Hood, he will take him out without hesitation.
“Where was your friendship when Hood was making his plans?”—Proctor asks Sugar.
This episodes “wtf?” moment occurs when Alex Longshadow pays a visit to Rebecca at the Slaughterhouse. He tells her he is going to help in taking her Uncle down once and for all, and when she asks why he is telling her, he tells her it’s because he likes her. He then kisses her and Rebecca reciprocates. For lack of better words, Proctor’s niece is a hot mess with a clear case of daddy issues. She’s gone from sleeping with Hood, watching Jason Hood get killed while they were mid-intercourse, having weird moments with her Uncle to making out with Alex Longshadow. She is clearly making up for lost time from her formal Amish years.
Proctor receives another unexpected visit, this time from his mother. In a very emotional seen, she tells him she “failed” him and she shares the things she has grown to hate about his father. These words drive Proctor to tears. Another reason Banshee has such a solid foundation is because the viewers know exactly what makes each characters tick. The same amount of attention is paid to villains like Proctor as it would be to any other character. The writers provide exponential detail to their character arc, from their current stage in the show to moments of their past and also their childhood.
The next seen goes back to New York at Rabbit’s brother Yulish’s Church. Detective Julius Bonner comes by to question Yulish about where his brother might be. Bonner is played by Reg E. Cathey, whom House of Cards fans know as Freddy Hayes, the owner of Freddy’s BBQ and loyal friend of Frank Underwood. Rabbit speaks with Yulish afterward and tells him he feels they are closing in on him, they make plans to kill Job, who is seen waking up in the hospital and clearly very afraid they will come and kill him if he stays there.
“Everyone must live or die by their own code.”—Yulish tells Detective Bonner
Brock meets up with Gordon Hopewell at Miles Diner again to give the DA the latest information he has on Sheriff Hood. He informs him of the strange coincidence of being with Hood and Yawners at the warehouse a day before it was blown up.
Hood gets a phone call from Job, while having some pillow talk with Siobhan about justice and right and wrong at his place. Job needs him to come and get him before Rabbit’s men close in on him. Siobhan is not pleased when Hood tells her he has to go. Hood stops at the Cadi and tells Deputy Lotus he is going out of town and leaves him his badge so he can take over Sheriff duties in his absence. Lotus is bewildered yet again by the mystery of Hood. He asks him “who the hell are you?”
Banshee has long been mentioned in these very recaps of being a town of consequences and a chain of events often being set off by whomever a character is involved with. Carrie has already paid dearly with her criminal past coming to light and badly damaging her current life with Gordon and her two children. She is reconnecting with Gordon and while the two are having sex for the first time in a very long time, they are interrupted by a knock on the door. It’s Sheriff Hood. Gordon has had enough and flips out at the sight of the Sheriff. Hood tells Carrie about Job needing their help, and that he found Rabbit and she informs Gordon she has to go.
Despite the fact that it might once again wreck her relationship with Gordon, it’s something she has to do and she cannot turn her back on an old friend in need. Gordon draws a gun on Hood and matters escalate to a high degree. In the midst of the tension, Carrie begs Gordon to stop, while Hood tells her he will kill Gordon if he doesn’t stop pointing the gun at him, Out of nowhere Carrie yells out that Hood is Deva’s father. Gordon is shocked to say the least and Carrie apologizes and leaves with Hood. This news should certainly send Gordon into another tailspin of depression and drunken nights at the Savoy.
“He’s Deva’s father!”—Carrie yells at Gordon
The climax of “Homecoming” is a three plus minute, ballet of gunfire and combat throughout the third floor of New York Presbyterian Hospital. Carrie and Hood show up at the same time Rabbit’s men do. The two cronies are disguised as priests and when Carrie recognizes the spider tattoo on one of them a shootout ensues. Meanwhile Hood has his hands full with the other assailant in Job’s hospital room. Carrie shoots her adversary, as does Hood, after being on the wrong end of the majority of the fight. At this time however, the police are on the scene, headed by Detective Bonner.
Job, Hood and Carrie escape the hospital dressed as patients and a doctor and all three friends walk directly past Bonner. Not more than a few seconds later, Bonner stops in his tracks and realizes it’s Hood, by remembering what he looked like some 15 years prior when he had him in an interrogation room. The detective runs back to the main entrance but it’s too late, they have made it out.
“Are there any members of your family who aren’t homicidal maniacs?”—Job sarcastically asks Carrie
The three regroup in a hotel room and devise a plan at getting more guns to take on Rabbit. Back at the Church, Yulish informs Rabbit the two assailants are dead. Rabbit starts to talk about God and whether or not he exists. While he is speaking, we see Yawners looking at the Cadi, Proctor sitting in his cell and Carrie and Hood on the top of a city building.
That’s all for this week Fanshees. “Homecoming” seems to have set up another season finale showdown with Hood, Carrie and Rabbit. The fallout from this impending battle will likely see more than one casualty. We have yet to see how Gordon will react from Carrie once again choosing Hood and her past over him and the present. Lastly what will happen with Proctor? It appears since the battle with Rabbit has jumped to the forefront, he will remain incarcerated and will return as a threat in Season 3. Although in Banshee you can never be too sure. See you next week.
