If you’re plans for movie going in 2015 included a midnight show of ‘Batman vs. Superman‘, you might not want to get in line quite as early.
Warner Bros. announced on Friday that plans for the upcoming Man of Steel sequel tentatively titled as ‘Batman vs. Superman‘ will see a release date of May 6, 2016 after first being announced for July 17, 2015.
“We are happy to take advantage of these coveted summer dates, which are perfect for two of our biggest tentpole releases,” Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. president of distribution said in a press release. “We share the fans’ excitement to see DC Comics’ most popular figures, Superman and Batman, together on the big screen for the first time, which will now be arriving in theaters in May 2016”
The film was expected to begin production in Detroit late last year/early 2014 but this new release date will push back the start of filming to the second quarter 2014 instead. Director Zack Snyder will helm the film along with a script penned by David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio.
The new Batman vs. Superman movie will see Ben Affleck take over the role of the Caped Crusader going up against Henry Cavill, who played Superman in the box office smash Man of Steel. Also on board is Gal Gadot, who will play Wonder Woman, while other parts are still up for grabs.
Names such as Joaquin Phoenix, Jason Momoa and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson have also been mentioned as possible candidates for the upcoming movie as DC starts moving closer and closer to an eventual Justice League film to rival Marvel’s Avengers franchise.
