Richard Hatch — who was best known for playing Captain Apollo in the original ‘Battlestar Galactica’ as well as Tom Zarek in the reimagined version of the same show for Syfy — has passed away at the age of 71.
According to his manager, Hatch died after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Hatch started out his acting career with a part on the soap opera ‘All My Children’ before landing the career defining role on ‘Battlestar Galactica’ in 1978.
Hatch remained active with roles in series such as ‘Dynasty’, ‘Murder She Wrote’ and ‘MacGyver’ while also writing five ‘Battlestar Galactica’ novels.
Hatch returned to the series with the remake of ‘Battlestar Galactica’ in 2003 where he portrayed rebel leader Tom Zarek, who had a prominent part on the show for several seasons.
Hatch was remembered on Tuesday by some of his cast mates from ‘Battlestar Galactica’
