Sherlock Holmes is going to Marvel.
Benedict Cumberbatch — best known for his role in the BBC series ‘Sherlock’ as well as films such as ‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’ — has officially signed on to star as Stephen Strange aka Doctor Strange in the upcoming Marvel movie set for release on November 4, 2016.
“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”
Cumberbatch lands the role after rumors circulated around everyone from Jared Leto to Joaquin Phoenix taking the part in the newest Marvel franchise.
The movie will be directed by Scott Derickson with a script by Jon Spaihts.
