CBS’s mega hit show ‘The Big Bang Theory’ was renewed for three more seasons, but it appears those will be the final years for the ratings juggernaut…
‘The Big Bang Theory’ on CBS continues to be the network’s hit comedy pulling in huge ratings, week over week, with no signs of slowing down. The show is so huge than on two different occasions, CBS gave the series a three season extension.
The latest renewal will take ‘The Big Bang Theory’ to season 10, but sad news nerds, because that appears to be the final year for the series if plans that are currently in place come to fruition.
According to ‘Big Bang Theory’ show runner Steve Molaro in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the executives behind the series are plotting a course for season 10 to serve as the final year for Leonard, Sheldon, Raj and Howard on CBS. Now things can obviously change with the direction of the show, but for now that seems to be the way things are heading.
“I’m going to move forward along with (co-creator) Chuck (Lorre) that 10 is the end unless we’re told otherwise,” Molaro said. “These are decisions that are so far away I can’t really even think about that. I have no choice but to move forward — it’s so far away. The mindset is it’s going to be the 10 and then we’ll see what happens after that.”
As far as the end of the show, Molaro says that they haven’t even really begun to think about where they will take the characters three seasons from now, but there will be plenty of story lines to work with between now and then.
“There’s no official ending,” Molaro said. “We all have thoughts and talk about little things here and there but we can’t even think four episodes ahead on this show, so to think 72 ahead is kind of crazy.”
‘The Big Bang Theory’ wraps up season 7 on CBS on May 8 at 8pm ET/PT.
