As expected, Breaking Bad went out on a high note with a record breaking performance in the ratings released on Monday…
There was little doubt that the Breaking Bad finale that aired on Sunday night on AMC was going to break a few records, but it’s safe to say now that the last episode pretty much crushed all expectations.
The initial numbers were released on Monday with Breaking Bad pulling in a whopping 10.3 million viewers over the course of the 75-minute episode.
The series finale pulled in 6.7 million viewers in the coveted 18-49 demographic as well. The ratings for the show’s last episode were up 300-percent from the season finale from a year ago.
The finale also sets the high mark for the entire series, which was just set a week ago with 6.8 million viewers for the penultimate episode that aired on AMC.
“Breaking Bad is simply unique,” Charlie Collier, AMC President said in a press release on Monday. “It all starts with Vince Gilligan who really only ever asked for one thing – the opportunity to end the show on his own terms. That is exactly what Vince did last night and, as always, brilliantly so. Congratulations to Vince and to every single person involved in this remarkable journey. We’re proud that AMC will forever be known as the birthplace and home of this iconic show and, at the same time, we tip our Heisenberg hat to the fans who made this a truly shared experience.”
The post show surrounding Breaking Bad on AMC titled Talking Bad also raked in 4.4 million viewers for its broadcast as well. The show featured several stars from the show including Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn and past favorites such as Giancarlo Esposito and Jonathan Banks.
Final numbers for Breaking Bad won’t be released for a few days with DVR numbers added in, so the ratings will eventually get even higher for this record breaking and landmark series.
