AMC has officially approved the launch of the Breaking Bad spin off titled Better Call Saul…
Breaking Bad fans can rejoice because their favorite lawyer will be launching into a new series very soon on AMC.
The news was announced on Wednesday in a joint press release from AMC and Sony Pictures for the spinoff series currently titled “Better Call Saul”, which will be focused around Walter White’s rather unscrupulous attorney Saul Goodman.
The premise of the series is set as a prequel spinoff to Breaking Bad as we learn more about Saul Goodman and his law practice before ever meeting Walter White.
Actor Bob Odenkirk will remain in his role as Saul Goodman for the upcoming prequel series that will air on AMC. No launch date was named for the new show.
The talk of a Breaking Bad spin-off had been in the works for several months, but only now did AMC secure the rights to the show in coordination with Sony to put it into production. If AMC didn’t snap up the rights, other television networks including Netflix seemed interested in purchasing the series.
AMC has been searching for a drama to replace Breaking Bad with the show reaching its conclusion in just three more episodes. The network has struggled with recent series such as Low Winter Sun receiving extremely low ratings even when being featured after a hit like Breaking Bad.
The network will also lose another of its powerhouse shows in 2014 when Mad Men wraps up its run as well.
There is no word on other Breaking Bad stars beyond Odenkirk that will star in the new spin-off series.
