Bryan Cranston has already played arguably the best anti-hero in television history but what about a villain in a superhero movie?
When ‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ was first coming together, rumors persisted for weeks that Bryan Cranston — best known for his role as Walter White on ‘Breaking Bad’ — was up for the role of Lex Luthor.
The rumors obviously turned out to be wrong because the role ultimately went to Jesse Eisenberg and Cranston says he was never even approached about the part in the first place.
Still, given Cranston’s considerable acting chops, getting him involved with a superhero movie at some point down the road seems like a no brainer and he’s definitely interested in the idea.
What Cranston would like more than anything is to play a villainous role that has never appeared on screen before.
According to the multi-time Emmy winner, he was even approached at one point to play Commissioner Gordon in one of the many iterations of that character in several Batman films, but he wasn’t all that interested.
One particular role that might get Cranston on board with a superhero movie would be a famous X-Men villain — who just so happens to be the featured bad guy in the upcoming ‘Wolverine’ sequel starring Hugh Jackman.
“I’m interested in creating a role. I’d love to do something that hasn’t been done before. Lex Luthor, there’s been a lot of that. I’ve been asked to take a look at Commissioner Gordon, that sort of thing. I would be one in several. I would kind of like to carve out a new identity,” Cranston told ‘Geeking Out’.
“Mr. Sinister has always been someone, it would be very cool.”
Director and producer Bryan Singer just recently revealed that Mr. Sinister aka Nathaniel Essex would be a major antagonist in the upcoming ‘Wolverine’ movie that will serve as the final film with Jackman playing the part as well as the last appearance of Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier.
No one has officially been cast in the part of Mr. Sinister, although there were rumors that the part might go to ‘Game of Thrones’ veteran Richard E. Grant.
Cranston has already committed to playing a role in the upcoming reboot for the ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ and what better way to get even deeper into the world of comic book and sci-fi fantasy than to play an iconic bad guy like Mr. Sinister.
Hopefully, FOX is listening and Cranston gets a call sooner rather than later to just offer him the part.
