With Marvel building an entire film universe built on crossing over characters, it looks like ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ want in on the act as well…
Ever since the Marvel Cinematic Universe launched with characters crossing over films on a regular basis and team movies like ‘The Avengers’ grossing billions of dollars, it makes a lot of sense that more movie studios would follow suit with their superhero franchises.
Zack Snyder wasted no time following his work on ‘Man of Steel’ with a planned DC film universe that now includes his upcoming movie ‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ as well as a Justice League film already in the works as well.
The only other major film studio out there with the possibility of crossing over major characters is 21st Century FOX with their ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ franchises and with big plans already in place for multiple movies, a film combining the two entities could happen sooner than you might think.
Bryan Singer — the mind behind the ‘X-Men’ franchise and the upcoming ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ — recently stated that he’s had talks with the filmmakers behind the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot about crossing over their characters and doing a massive film putting both teams together in one movie.
“Those ideas are in play,” Singer said. “That would be a natural match-up because they’re both ensemble films and there is a natural mechanism by which to do it.”
While he wouldn’t give too many details, Singer went as far as to tease the potential plot behind an ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ movie so it’s clear there’s already been some discussion about how that film would work.
“It deals with time,” Singer said. “That’s all I’m going to say.”
Right now, Singer is putting the finishing touches on filming of ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ ahead of the opening on May 27, 2016 while hopes are high that ‘Fantastic Four’ will be a late summer smash for FOX when it opens on August 7.
