The adventures of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Faith as well as the cast and crew from Firefly will live again in new series planned for 2014 from Dark Horse comics…
If you just can’t get enough of the Joss Whedonverse, you’re in luck because the prolific creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly will be continuing both series in comic books that will be released in 2014.
Starting with Serenity (Firefly the name still belongs to FOX television), the new series will be written by Zack Whedon with a six-issue miniseries following the crew from the cult series following the conclusion of the film from 2005.
The new series titled ‘Serenity: Firefly Class 03-K64—Leaves on the Wind‘ will be released by Dark Horse Comics with art by Georges Jeanty and covers by Dan Dos Santos. The first issue of the six issue miniseries will be released on Jan 29, 2014.
“We’ve been dying to get more Serenity out ever since the book Joss and Zack wrote. We all loved Zack’s work on Shepherd’s Tale, and couldn’t wait to get him back into the mix. This story is the first giant step past the film, after the big damn heroes stuck a big middle finger in the face of the Alliance,” Editor in Chief Scott Allie said in a press release about the new series. “Zack establishes new ground rules for these characters. He nails the voices, takes the relationships to the next level, and just gives us all the best space romp since the film Joss made.”
In addition to Serenity/Firefly coming back to life in the comic book realm, Buffy the Vampire Slayer will enter its 10th season under the direction of Joss Whedon with a new creative team at the lead.
Christos Gage (who has previously worked on Buffy) will take over for previous writer Andrew Chambliss (who now works on Once Upon a Time) for Buffy season 10, which is slated for a 30 issue run starting on March 19, 2014. The art will move from Jeanty, who is now drawing Serenity, to Rebekah Isaacs.
“The Buffyverse community has been wonderfully welcoming to Rebekah and me. It’s a tremendous honor for Joss and Dark Horse to trust us with their flagship book, and we are going to do all we can to be worthy of that trust. It’s a new season, with new rules…but hopefully the same blend of love, action, horror, humor and creativity that’s made Buffy and her Scoobies part of all our families. We hope you’ll join us for the ride,” states Christos Gage
The other returning series from the Whedonverse will be the ongoing adventures of Angel & Faith, which will also receive a 30 issue run written by Victor Gischler and illustrated by Will Conrad, with covers by Scott Fischer.
Angel & Faith season 10 No. 1 will go on sale April 2, 2014.
