Okay I will admit it. I dropped the ball last week. I was late to the party. Due to technical difficulties and Klingons, I had to miss a week of CSC. But do not fret; I come fully loaded with movie trailer treats. I also included a bonus trailer so that you will forgive my transgression for I have sinned…sayeth the Lord…and such as…and so on. What is that? 10 Hail Marys, five Our Fathers and a loving grope? Like they say in the Bible “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.” I will stop with the preaching and bring you some candy.
Last Days on Mars
Release Date: December 6, 2013
It seems a lot of horror movie fans love them some zombies. So just when you thought the genre couldn’t be pushed any further, we now have zombies in space. Well… at least that is what the trailer for Last Days on Mars seems to allude to; I will let you make that call. The horror/science fiction film is directed by Ruairi Robinson and stars Liev Schrieber, Elias Koteas, Romola Garai, and Olivia Williams. The trailer almost has a “28 Days Later” vibe to it, but like I said…in space. If you can’t wait for December for this flick, it will be available to watch on Halloween but via VOD (That’s video on demand in case you didn’t know.) Enjoy the trailer…I will say it does look kind of creepy.
Plot Line: On the last day of the first manned mission to Mars, a crew member of Tantalus Base believes he has made an astounding discovery – fossilized evidence of bacterial life. Unwilling to let the relief crew claim all the glory; he disobeys orders to pack up and goes out on an unauthorized expedition to collect further samples. But a routine excavation turns to disaster when the porous ground collapses, and he falls into a deep crevice and near certain death. His devastated colleagues attempt to recover his body. However, when another vanishes they start to suspect that the life-form they have discovered is not yet dead. As the group begins to fall apart it seems their only hope is the imminent arrival of the relief ship Aurora.

Carrie
Release Date: October 18, 2013
Hey look another remake. Not only is this a remake, it’s a remake of a remake. Nothing is sacred now-a-days. That said, a fresh and more modern perspective on the 1974 Stephen King Novel may end up being a good thing. MGM and Screen Gems decided to produce the film and this time is more true to Stephen King’s vision. So far so good as they brought on every nerd’s kick ass dream girl, Grace Moretz as the titular Carrie White, and Academy Award winning MILF Julianne Moore to play Carrie’s crazy mother Margaret White. That said, Stephen King has been scratching his head on why Hollywood felt the need to do another Carrie Movie when he thought the first attempt was the best one.
The film is directed by Kimberly Peirce who brought us The L Word, Boys Don’t Cry, and Stop-Loss. The producers also brought on Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa who wrote the crazy Broadway play Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, and he also previously adapted King’s work The Stand into a comic book in 2008. I’m surprised that they didn’t at least give Sissy Spacek a cameo.
So instead of a trailer I bring you a behind the scenes featurette. I can’t wait for the 4th Carrie movie fifteen years from now.
Plot Line: A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White, a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

True Detective
Release Date: HBO – January 14, 2014
Who loves HBO? I do! I do! They really have become the network that isn’t afraid to bring anything to our boob tubes. Can we still call television sets “Boob Tubes?” Teehehe…”boob!” Regardless its HBO so there will be boobs in there somewhere. So as we wait for Game of Thrones and as we all get back into Boardwalk Empire, we now have another HBO production to look forward to called True Detective. It stars two of my favorite actors in Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. The last time we saw these two actors working together was in 1999’s EDTV. Now they are playing two bad boy detectives whose lives intersect on the hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana. You get the sense that something spirals out of control somewhere down the line and shit gets real.
Plot Line: The upcoming HBO crime anthology will only be eight episodes that utilize multiple timelines to trace two detectives’ hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana across seventeen years.

BONUS – Since I dropped the ball on Coming Soon Candy last week, I thought I would leave you with another remake, but this is actually a remake of an old trailer. If you have never watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail we cannot be friends and you have no soul. Anyway, it’s a timeless comedic classic and someone on the interweb decided to create a more serious and modern trailer.
See you next week sinners!
