Add another iconic Batman villain to the list of those joining the new show ‘Gotham’ as Cory Michael Smith has been cast as Edward Nygma aka The Riddler….
The prequel universe for Batman coming to life on the small screen in FOX’s new series Gotham continues to grow as young actor Cory Michael Smith, known best for his part in the HBO miniseries Olive Kitteridge as well as Camp X-Ray, will take on the role of Edward Nygma.
Nygma — in the Batman universe — is a brilliant but socially awkward scientist, who yearns to be liked by all those around him before he eventually succumbs to more sinister desires and becomes arch criminal The Riddler.
Smith joins Jada Pinkett Smith, who will play gangster Fish Mooney, and Robin Lord Taylor, who plays Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin, as some of the villains on the first season of ‘Gotham’.
The show is already in production with Ben McKenzie in the title role as police detective Jim Gordon along with his partner Harvey Bullock, played by veteran actor Donal Logue.
Smith is already a big winner even before he slaps on the green suit and starts to really enjoy question marks as part of his everyday outfit — he’s also dating ‘Game of Thrones’ actress Emilia Clarke.
You win, Mr. Smith, you win.
