Could Nightwing Appear in the New Superman/Batman Film?

Is there a chance Nightwing aka Dick Grayson could make an appearance in the upcoming Superman/Batman film?

By Trevor Dueck — Staff Writer

According to the Latino-Review, a bombshell rumor, regarding the much talked about Batman-Superman film, has been dropped onto their laps. Now take this with a grain of salt as I find the Latino-Review to be hit or miss with their “rumors.” That said, apparently there is a large one going around that Dick Grayson and his alter ego Nightwing will also be a part of the Zack Snyder’s 2015 sequel to Superman. I just heard fanboys everywhere shriek like Bieber girls.

In case you don’t know, Grayson is the adopted ward of Bruce Wayne who eventually becomes Robin. However, as Dick grew older he eventually went out on his own and dropped the Robin identity and became a tougher looking crime fighter when he took on the mantle of Nightwing. If you really know your comic book history there were times where Dick would also take on the Batman role when Bruce was too old and injured to go out at night.

So who will take on the role of Nightwing? Apparently sources are saying that the casting directors are on a lookout for “a young John Hawkes” type of guy, this according to Latino-Review. There were also rumors that Justin Bieber was possibly up for the role after he took a selfie of him holding what looked to be a Superman script and plastered the picture on his Twitter account. Now before you go all ape shit, those rumors were shot down and it has already been confirmed that Bieber had a fake script. The little Canadian pop tard was trolling. I’m Canadian and trust me I want to slap him as much as you do.

So if this rumor of a Nightwing is true, it seems to be consistent with what Zack Snyder wants to do with the film. His vision is based upon the graphic novel The Dark Knight where we are introduced to an aging Bruce Wayne who has to put on the Batman suit again to stop Superman from being…all super and stuff. So we skip right over Robin as a character and are introduced to an older Dick Grayson; it makes sense.

This is the first rumor of additional characters being added to Superman sequel. Last week we were told that there was a chance that Wonder Woman could also make an appearance in the film. Some have even said that DC/Warner Brothers executives have been talking to the beautiful Jaime Alexander to play the role of Princess Diana (Wonder Woman). I’m not sure how accurate that is but she didn’t exactly shoot the rumors down when she was part of an AMC panel a few weeks back. In fact she poured gasoline all over it and lit a match and like the saying goes, where there is smoke there is fire. I personally think Jaime would be perfect but she has already took on a role in the Marvel Universe as the Asgardian warrior Sif in the upcoming Thor: The Dark World. We will see how all of this plays out.

If the rumors are true and we do see a Nightwing and a Wonder Woman in the upcoming Superman-Batman film, it would be a great way to introduce characters rather than giving them their own stand alone films. Remember, the plan is to eventually put together a Justice League movie, so DC really needs to start following what Marvel has done so well, and get a move on in character introductions.

Anyway, all of the above are just rumors for now. Nothing has been confirmed by the studio. If Nightwing is in the film who would you want to see play the part? Please do not say Shia LaBeouf. I would like to see them go with a relatively unknown in either Tyler Hoechlin from Teen Wolf or Harry Lloyd from Game of Thrones but maybe they are not “John Hawke’ish” enough as DC wants.
