Damian Lewis confirmed that he’s returning to his old stomping grounds at “Billions” during season 7 on Showtime…
Axe is back.
During an appearance on “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert on Monday night, Damian Lewis announced that he’s returning as Bobby Axelrod to “Billions” for the upcoming seventh season on Showtime.
“Bobby’s back,” Lewis said. “He’s coming back. Axe is back and it’s exciting and he’s not been around for a couple of seasons. He’s back.”
Lewis initially exited “Billions” after season 5 following the tragic death of his wife Helen McCrory, which led to him wanting to spend more time at home with his family in England. “Billions” shoots in New York so the production required him to live in the United States for a big part of the year.
Now Lewis is returning to the iconic role as the hedge fund manager and leader of Axe Capital where he rejoins a cast that also includes Paul Giamatti, Corey Stoll, Maggie Siff, David Costabile, Asia Kate Dillon, Condola Rashad, Jeffrey DeMunn, Sakina Jaffrey, and Daniel Breaker.
When Axe left the show, he was facing a number of criminal charges but rather than face potential prison time, he ultimately signed over his company to longtime rival Michael Prince (Stoll) and left the country to start a new life in Switzerland. It remains to be seen how exactly Axe will come back but Lewis is scheduled to appear in at least six of the 12 episodes for the upcoming seventh season.
Here’s the synopsis for the season:
“Alliances are turned on their heads. Old wounds are weaponized. Loyalties are tested. Betrayal takes on epic proportions. Enemies become wary friends. And Bobby “Axe” Axelrod returns, as the stakes grow from Wall Street to the world.”
Production on “Billions” season 7 is already underway in New York, although there is no debut date for the series on Showtime.
