A pair of the original ‘Ghostbusters’ are returning for the upcoming sequel in 2020 as Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson are set to reprise their roles in Jason Reitman’s film…
Who you gonna call?
How about Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, who are now confirmed to return to the upcoming ‘Ghostbusters’ sequel from director Jason Reitman that is due out on July 10, 2020.
Rumors have been swirling about the original cast returning ever since Reitman announced the project as he took over the ‘Ghostbusters’ franchise from his father Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two films in the series. Sigourney Weaver announced over the summer that she would be returning to play Dana Barrett for the third time with Annie Potts also confirmed to come back to play secretary Janine Melnitz.
Now both Aykroyd and Hudson are confirmed to reprise their roles after portraying Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore in the first two ‘Ghostbusters’ movies respectively.
Aykroyd confirmed his appearance in the upcoming ‘Ghostbusters’ sequel when appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast last week.
“I’m not in the pictures so much anymore. We’ve got the Ghostbusters movie that we’re working on now and I will have to be performing in that,” Aykroyd said
“Ivan Reitman’s son Jason has written a new movie called, well, it’s gonna be Ghostbusters, the third movie. It will be all, most of the original people and then young stars.”
Hudson followed that announcement by confirming he would also be coming back for the third ‘Ghostbusters’ film after last playing the role in the original sequel in 1989. Production on the new ‘Ghostbusters’ is currently taking place with Hudson already on set for his part in the movie.
The only major cast members not yet confirmed for the new ‘Ghostbusters’ sequel are Bill Murray and Rick Moranis. Many believe Murray will return but perhaps his appearance is being kept under wraps while Moranis a long shot after he retired from acting several years ago to devote his time to raising his family. Sadly, Harold Ramis — the fourth member of the original ‘Ghostbusters’ — died in 2014.
Plot details around the new ‘Ghostbusters’ largely remain a mystery although what we do know is that Carrie Coon will be one of the lead stars as she plays a single mother to two kids — played by ‘Stranger Things’ star Finn Wolfhard and ‘The Haunting of Hill House’s McKenna Grace — along with a local school teacher, who will be played by Paul Rudd.
The new ‘Ghostbusters’ lands in theaters on July 10, 2020.
